Wicker Man: The Final Cut 4K Restoration Review – The Wicker Man: The Final Cut 4K Restoration

It certainly was, and still is, a movie that pulls you in and makes you think about what you are watching, its charm is its strangeness and building up the tension of what Howie (Woodward) is getting himself into while trying to find a missing girl on an island in pagan rituals and hidden secrets that takes the viewer into a strange and foreboding world. But this pastoral community, led by the strange Lord Summerisle (Christopher Lee) is not what it seems as the devoutly religious detective soon uncovers a secret society of wanton lust and pagan blasphemy. The 5-disc Collector’s Edition will also include an exclusive EP from Heavenly Records, a 64-page booklet with brand new essays, 3 ‘Postcards from Summerisle’ and 2 posters of the new and original artwork. I remember my dad playing me Willow’s Song and I found it hypnotic and it started being a song I listened to a lot.THE WICKER MAN (all 3 versions) will then be released in an exclusive Collector’s Edition and on 4k UHD for the first time on September 4th 2023. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the folk-horror classic, STUDIOCANAL is bringing us a glorious new 4K restoration of The Wicker Man which is out on 25th September. in September 2021: a diverse array of left-field artists injecting fresh life into songs whose original authors have been lost in time. As a Wicker Fan, these are fun additions and it is always a thrill to see more of something you love, but the extra scenes of the locals being naughty, Howie in church and Lord Summerisle sending a young lad to Willow to lose his virginity, all of which come in the first third, result in the film playing its hand too early. Britt Ekland is the surprise of the movie and for those that have never seen the movie be prepared for some scenes of nudity from Ekland, the other surprise is that most of the dialogue and singing that is on the screen from Ekland is dubbed over by the Scottish singer and actress Annie Ross.

The series forms a loose narrative, a connection between the past and present, using literal, metaphorical, and spiritual symbolism.

An extremely uptight Christian, Howie is shocked at the pagan goings-on on Summerisle and is frustrated every which way: sexually, as he tries his darnedest to resist the advances of the landlord’s daughter, Willow ( Britt Ekland), as well as at every turn in his investigations by the lying locals and the charming Lord Summerisle ( Christopher Lee). THE WICKER MAN was directed by Robin Hardy and has a cast featuring Edward Woodward, Christopher Lee, Britt Ekland and Diane Cilento. The Wicker Man is certainly a film that in this day and age, the easy offendable will get upset, but remember this movie was made in 1973 and things have changed, heck if we can get a warning before a screening of Flash Gordon then it’s a world that we live in, shame really with all the new centring of books and films, but that’s a whole different kettle of fish! But there is so much more to the story behind Sergeant Howie’s visit and stranger still are the rites that take place there. Not only are you getting a classic horror for your collection, but you are also getting a set that is packed with some amazing stuff.
