About this deal

One of my favorite things to tell young people is that f eelings aren’t good or bad– they are just our bodies way of letting us know what is going on in the world around us! Over the course of a week, have your learners drop items, or their names, into the jar that they feel best represents their feeling that day. They might even want to put the different pictures into separate jars or containers, just like the Colour Monster. I try to be very transparent with what is in the free download and include a picture of both of the worksheets - again to be as transparent in what is included in this free download. Does their emotional literacy increase where they could initially name three feelings, but now it’s five?

For an even better way to find KS2 resources, discover tailored suggestions, and much more - visit the KS2 resource HUB! The children must help the monster fill his jars by drawing people, things, or places that make them feel each of the feelings identified. Not only has it got warming pictures that are illustrated in such a creative way, but Anna Llenas takes re-cycling to a new level - she has used cardboard and paper to create such appealing illustrations that greet you on the layout of every page. Invite children to make their own feelings monsters to display alongside the banner and talk about the different feelings and emotions the monsters represent. They will also employ fine motor skills as they use scissors to cut the monsters and speech bubbles out. The PDF version is a picture of the monster with text and graphics added over because I hand drew the monster, pieces, and bottles to attempt to keep as similar style to the book as possible - so it's not possible to share as they were drawn out in person. There are large colour monster displays containing pictures and words in each classroom so the children can add their name card to the emotion they are feeling. For the adventurous, they might want to mix in some jelly, glitter, spaghetti or even some shaving foam to experiment with different textures. There are friendly monsters hiding in the corners of this delightful book getting up to all sorts of things.

There is not a child on the planet who won’t empathise with these two in this little story about a very familiar domestic situation! The banner shows illustrations of colourful monsters that represent different feelings and emotions. If you are doing any sort of metaphor work with kids this is a GREAT book to get the wheels turning!
