About this deal

The score sheets are updated from the original to be mostly image-based, so non-readers can follow along, too. While it is definitely not as detailed or tactical as the original game, players get to know the characters and monsters of the classic Dungeons and Dragons and practice their skills before graduating to more intricate storylines and battles.

Like the original version, this game requires you to build a settlement to earn points, but the Family Edition makes it a little easier to learn the ins and outs of the game, so kids won't need to sit through lengthy instructions to get to the fun. Full descriptions of our grades can be found on our Outlet page, for more information please check our terms and conditions. Created by Gamewright, Outfoxed is a board game that aims to hone children’s problem solving, logic and deductive reasoning skills in an fun and engaging way.Including 16 thief/suspect cards, 12 clue tokens, four detective hat pawns, a thief miniature, game board and a unique ‘clue decoder’ - Outfoxed! It's a lighter lift (with fewer dark themes) than the original board game, making it a good pick for families that can handle a bit of competition without anyone getting upset.

If your child is interested in fantasy, but not quite ready for the magical world of Dungeons and Dragons, opt for this easier-to-learn cooperative board game. In addition to the detective pieces, the game also comes with a red “thief” statue in the shape of a rather dapper-looking fox. Shuffle the 16 Thief cards and without looking, insert into the top of the Clue decoder, The easiest way to do this is to hold the decoder with the window-side down and slider closed. This game is relatively easy, but it teaches problem-solving, attention to detail, and categorization. While it may lack the all ages appeal of some of Gamewright’s other family classics like Sushi Go and Forbidden Island, Outfoxed! As a result, children will get an opportunity to work on their social, communication and information sharing skills, as well as their general patience, which is always a plus and means that the game is less likely than some others we’ve seen to end in fights and tears due to competitive rivalry. As players gather clues they carefully sort through and eliminate potential suspects, eventually piecing together enough data to build a rough sketch of the thief as to make an educated guess.

Much like Clue and other whodunits, Outfoxed involves kids slowly gathering and considering evidence and using it to eliminate suspects before circling in on a criminal. When this happens, remove the "Thief" card from the decoder and make sure they match, If they do, congratulations sleuths, you cracked the case and won the game! Just be warned that the stepping stones are lightweight foam, so it's not ideal for a windy day (or underneath heavy boots). This is, after all, a children’s game and perhaps we shouldn’t look for ways to crack it’s mechanics.Once you get good at the base game, step up the challenge by moving the fox pawn 4 spaces instead of 3.

For large groups of kids, look for board games with higher player designations, such as Apples to Apples or Telestrations, or board games that use teams, such as Pictionary Junior. For example, if they want to move they will have to get three paws and can move up to the total number of paws printed on the dice towards a clue space. In Outfoxed, you move around the board to gather clues, then use the special evidence scanner to rule out suspects.

However, their proximity to human settlements and taste for poultry has led to stereotypical depictions in the media.
