Oh my goodness, everything about this small batch, handcrafted gin from Pocketful of Stones distillers in Cornwall is just quite extraordinary! The decision to set up in Penzance was an obvious one for this surf-loving Durban native who remains the driving force behind our creativity. Abandoning the crowds of London for the wilds of Cornwall, we are pouring all that experience into Pocketful of Stones. It has a strangely familiar aroma, it always reminds me of working on my old Land Rover, its uncanny. To infuse the gin with its distinct character, Pocketful of Stones adds a secret blend of botanicals, including fragrant herbs, spices, and a touch of the mystical ink of the squid.

The exquisite taste reveals a perfect balance of savoury and citrus elements, culminating in a long, satisfying finish that leaves you longing for another sip. Served from a copper flask engraved with the scenery, wildlife, folklore and history that surrounds this award winning distillery. Squid ink is so powerful that just a bit is needed to give a gin its distinctive colour and flavour.Maybe, more importantly, we all learned lots and lots about spirits and fell in love with their rich history. About the distillers, Pocketful of Stones is a small craft distillery based in Long Rock just outside of Penzance but was born in the cellar of a pub in London where two brothers sat around a copper still tinkering with gin recipes. The Pocketful of Stones Distillery in Penzance has crafted a truly unique gin that incorporates a surprising ingredient: real squid ink! On many occasions we almost conceded that it would not be possible, neither the copper flask nor the balancing of the recipe, but it was an idea that we so steadfastly believed in that we could not let it go.

After years of tastings, pairings, distillery tours, and altogether too much drinking, Shaun decided to put all that knowledge to good use. Gin was apparently invented by monks in Salermo, Southern Italy in the 12th Century and began life as a medicinal liquor (yeah right, just medicinal, we’ve all said that 😉 ).A rather savoury expression, with a coastal feeling to it, along with a few touches of citrus and spice.

For an extra touch of seaside elegance, add a sprig of rosemary, bringing a fragrant herbal accent that enhances the gin’s unique character. Inexplicably, after a short period he decided to go back to creating and left dealing with the public to someone else! Inspired by the sea, created in a traditional copper pot still perched on the rugged Cornish coastline. It was this background, and the fact that it was his local, that led Paul to get involved in the early days of the Lukin, and he now sits as the business brain behind Pocketful of Stones.Bespoke designed glamping pods away from it all, yet only 20 minutes drive away from the wonderful City of York. From Greek tavernas and American cocktail bars right through to Kiwi breweries and Australian beer festivals, Mike has held almost every role in hospitality in some of the most unique venues across the world, including a couple of stints with Shaun and Balazs in London. Once upon a time Hendrick’s with its hint of cucumber or your Bombay Sapphire was as exotic as it got. Squid Gin comes to us from the Pocketful of Stones Distillery in Penzance, which was made using a recipe that features real, no-foolin' squid ink! A celebration of the unique relationship between Cornwall and Mexico, with a depth of flavour that has to be tasted!
