About this deal
Even if you believe that their actions are a large part of the problem, it’s better to maintain your “I” not “you” approach. In other words, rather than face up to the regret or guilt, they make it seem like someone else has reason to feel regret or guilt in their place. Alternatively, your spouse uses the last of the milk and then gets angry when they need some more at a later point in time and there is none.
Understand that, for them, blaming others is a tool that they use to deal with the challenges they face both in your relationship and in a wider context. This entertaining novel starts with Marissa knocking on another school mother’s door to collect her son Milo, after a play date. Normally I don’t love thrillers and I will say this one was a little more emotional for me as it deals with a kidnap and I’m a relatively new mum, so that probably made this more ‘enjoyable’ (or maybe emotional). And you might also benefit from some form of therapy in terms of your assertiveness, boundary setting, self-confidence, or anything else.
Trata el tema de la desaparición de un menor pero con mucha originalidad ya que al final no va a ser el tema central. Even if your goal is to reach a point where your spouse stops blaming you for everything, you can’t expect to get there quickly. You both neglect to clean up after yourselves, but they don’t suffer any negative consequences for their behavior whereas they do for yours.
Overall, this is such a good novel and one I’d have no hesitation in recommending to fans of the genre. The characters in this novel are wholly unlikeable (with the exception of young Milo) and I think the author did this intentionally, since my emotions and opinions of them changed as the story progressed. His neck was dark grey, the backs of his hands were rusty , and his finger-nails were black deep into the quick. When they reach for the bottle for their morning cereal and find it’s not there, you should be willing to apologize.
