It's sad really when the first two movies in a series( Scream, Scream 2)start off strong — full of laughs as well as smarts — but the last entry ends the entire franchise with a whimper. The laughs and smarts are still there, but it all adds up to a silly conclusion that takes fans to a deep, dark past. It's a plot twist that comes completely out of left field and seems far too convenient to ever be taken seriously. Then again, according to Randy (Jaime Kennedy) in a posthumous video recording, all bets are off in trilogies. The rules don't apply because the point is to explore a deep, dark past, something that changes everything we know about the slasher series. Q&A with Cast and Crew: Included are What's Your Favorite Scary Movie? and Why Are People So Fascinated By Horror Of course, there’s nothing wrong per se with this film – it very competently inserts Tab A into Slot B in doing what it sets out to do: be the now ubiquitous ‘legacy sequel’ (thanks to The Force Awakens, it’s a carbon copy plot of the original film with original cast members cameoing to hand the baton over to a new, younger cast to continue its fan milking for many more entries to come…). The kills are bloody, the holy trinity of original cast show up and do very little (with the exception of David Arquette who actually is fantastic as a very different Dewey Riley, possibly because he’s actually given a decent amount of screentime (unlike his returning co-stars Neve Campbell and Courtney Cox) and the new young cast are exactly like the old young cast, only with half the charisma and a quarter of the depth. various examples of bright 90s clothing, and of course red blood. The palette is very natural in flavor without a feel of bursting color excess. It's very Behind the Scenes Montage– Yes, its’ really worded like that. And it delivers – it’s literally just a mashup of scenes from the shoot. There are no other source or encode issues to report. This is an A-grade catalogue UHD release from Paramount. offering a practically perfect filmic appearance that boasts a very fine grain structure, unlike the previous Blu-ray which was defined by a morass of well defined, and refined 4K image is obvious; fans who have been living on the decade-old Blu-ray will find this to be a very welcome addition to Deleted Scenes (SD, 14 min) — With an optional commentary by Craven, Maddelena and Lussier, the collection is mildly interesting but adds little value to the movie. Second time around does this new iteration of the Scream franchise no favours at all, with this just released 4K disc from Paramount going out of its way to remind you exactly what’s so wrong with the film itself...
Penned by Ehren Krueger (' Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,' 'The Ring,' ' The Brothers Grimm'), this sudden shift in focus away from Sidney is a bit bizarre since the closing moments reveal the world revolves around her and her mother. But as mentioned earlier, there is plenty of fun to be had in this third installment. The best scares are early on with Sidney's chilling apparitions, but they turn out not to serve much purpose except to freak out the audience. Parker Posey as Jennifer Jolie playing Gale Weathers is a great character and offers a few facetious observations about actors portraying real-life people. And there's also the fun game of name that star in a cameo with Lance Henriksen, Carrie Fisher, Roger Corman, and Jay & Silent Bob of all people.
