You'll get colourful, sharp picture quality even though the HDR brightness could be better. And the design of the set will look smart in your living room. It's a shame that the sound isn't quite up to par, but that’s easily solved by hooking up a separate soundbar. It has a strong feature set and performs fairly well in some aspects, but the smeary motion undoes a lot of the good work the set does elsewhere.
If the brand you buy is important to you, our best advice is to spend some time writing up your own list of ideal brands. That way when you come to the point where you’re comparing product options you can filter to only show the products from brands in your list. There are several settings and processor modes that you can use to try to find a balance that works but, ultimately, none of them fully solve the underlying problem. It’s a shame because there are some good things about this TV’s picture performance. However, an update appears to have ironed this out. It’s not perfect, but motion is smoother. Judder is still apparent, but less egregious. Smooth and Standard Ultra Smooth Motion settings serve up the subtlest performance, though the Film works well for movies. Watching the BBC news in Full HD, the close-ups of the in-studio correspondents are good, there’s reasonable upscaled skin detail and colour balance and vibrancy throughout the picture remains strong.
The Hisense U7QF is a very good midrange LED LCD that uses Quantum Dot technology and also has Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HLG and HDR10 capabilities along with Dolby Atmos sound onboard. The smart TV system is intuitive and fast with a decent selection of apps as well as Freeview Play and all the UK catch-up services. Gaming input lag is also decent at 17ms but it doesn’t have all the HDMI 2.1 goods for VRR or ALLM. Just before we get into the detail of analysing the price of this product, we want to briefly highlight the importance of setting yourself a budget before you spend too much time shopping around for a suitable product. It’s all too often that we get carried away when shopping and find ourselves buying a fantastic product, but probably actually overdelivers on what we need and therefore costs a lot more than we should have spent. So spend a bit of time looking around at the sort of price you can expect to pay for products in the Televisions category and use that alongside your own financial situation to set yourself a budget. When it comes to picture modes, there are a few to choose from. Those being HDR Day, HDR Night, HDR Dynamic, HDR Sports or Auto. Choosing HDR Day does make it more visible in the sun but it also makes colours look a little over the top, while HDR Night dulls them out a little too much. AppNexus sets the anj cookie that contains data stating whether a cookie ID is synced with partners.
Performance
This TV has a problem with motion when watching 24fps content. Unfortunately, that includes most film and premium TV, whether played from a disc or streamed from a service such as Netflix, or through a media streamer. What happens is, the TV starts OK but the volume controls don't work, although the sound appears to be coming from the Soundbar at a constant volume. The first is brand. Looking at the brand of the product is often a really good indicator for judging product quality. For example you’d expect a much higher quality product from a brand known for providing excellent quality than you would from an unknown or even a budget brand. The video processing in the Hisense U7QF is powered by the Hi-View Engine which helps with motion and scaling of images. We found the upscaling to be good with only the odd instance of ringing around fine lines in some test patterns, but this was not visible in the vast majority of HD content we viewed.
The performance is decent and best suited for broadcast as it serves up clear dialogue quality. It’s also offers decent panning across the soundstage, as well as offering some specificity in terms of where sounds emanate from.We’re told these features are in “the early stages of development”, but for now it’s probably better to give them a wide berth. Unfortunately, there’s also a loss in terms of colour depth and accuracy. The crash scene on Xandar at the end of the film is a good place to spot this. The three way close-ups between the blue-faced Yondu, green-skinned Gamora and Peter Quill’s human complexion are off the mark. The balance between them is even but each feels slightly off the hue that they should be.
The next step for us was to look at all of the products that fall within the Televisions category, of which we found 187 products at Argos. So we pulled together all of the prices of these products to analyse the average prices as well as finding the cheapest and most expensive options. Although it’s not mentioned in the specs, streaming via Chromecast is an option. Alexa is available through the Remote Now app (iOS and Android), and it’s happy to ‘work with’ Google Assistant via external speakers. The U7Q doesn’t have a glut of smart features, but it serves anyone after the fundamentals. Problems still persist. The scene in Skyfall (Dolby Vision Bright) where Bond is served a martini at the Macau gambling palace features smearing, but at least it’s better controlled (just). Animation can suffer too, as an episode of The Simpsons eluded the Hisense’s grip.

Of the 187 products, we discovered that 79 were more expensive and 104 were cheaper than Hisense 50 Inch 50U7QFTUK 4K Ultra HD QLED TV with HDR. Prices from Hisense I have set the HDMI-CEC config panel for the HS215 to 'Auto-start', and when I power the TV up, the Soundbar powers up. Ultimately, there are far better TVs available for this sort of money, such as the Panasonic TX-58HX800, which give us very little reason to recommend this Hisense.
