About this deal

When Mina agreed to deliver a parrot for her friend Peter for a little extra cash she never could have foreseen what was coming. As Mina was traveling in the remote roads her car broke down right at the edge of a forest. With nothing behind her for miles Mina heads into the woods with the parrot in tow. Evan witnesses the girl being assaulted and verbally abused by her father. He hears the girl's father screaming at her about a photo, Callie's photo. The girl's father is unaware that Evan witnessed this abuse and continues to abuse his daughter. Evan takes off like a shot after witnessing that and gets Chris. They call the police and manage to stop the girl's father from abusing any further. The police arrive and arrest the father, and the girl reveals her name, Margaret. Ross Armstrong's forthcoming debut novel, The Watcher, is a stylish and experimental challenge — one that will surely leave many a reader scratching his or her head when the story is done, but not without a faint sense of satisfaction . . . an inkling that something unique was just experienced. I literally read this book in one sitting one morning . Impossible to put down, this is classic horror, beautifully written and seriously creepy. I really can’t recommend this enough. Crazed mad man, or dude manipulated with psychotic precision? You decide.

As I said, the plot is very different from what I expected. For me the first half of the novel dragged on a little bit and it didn’t really wow me, but the second half was really creepy. It’s not even what happens in the story but how Martin acts – as he’s getting more and more paranoid and mentally unstable, us readers feel less and less insecure because we have literally no idea what he’s capable of or what he might do next. Librarian Note: There is more than one author in the Goodreads database with this name. See this thread for more information. This book is going to stay with me for a while. Try as I may, I don’t think I’ll ever work it out. But am I really supposed to? When Mina arrives at the edge of an odd forest, her car stops working. Then she hears strange sounds as night arrives and she spends the night in her car. The next morning, with the birdcage in hand, she starts off, thinking she’ll just walk through to the other side. It’s the sense of isolation and unease as Lily’s life spirals out of control, which permeate the fabric of this book creating a really different form of tension and nail biting suspense. A couple’s dream home turns into a total nightmare in Netflix’s The Watcher. The limited series, from creator Ryan Murphy, is based on a true story that is almost too horrifying to believe. The Broadduses, who moved to a smaller home in Westfield, told The Sun Online in October that they are traumatized by their experience with The Watcher and are “trying to move on” with their lives. They said the Netflix series, which they do not plan to watch, did not make them rich, or even fully cover the losses incurred from the sale of their house. This book was provided to me by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.** I can't complain about a thing. A.M. Shine has a spectacular way with words and I was able to clearly picture the setting--I think that speaks greatly to the authors skills.

Just as night is beginning to fall Mina sees a woman calling out to her to hurry to a shelter. Mina finds that in the shelter are other travelers who are just as trapped as she now is by the things watching them out in the surrounding woods. Nolfi, Joey (September 14, 2021). "Naomi Watts teases her return to horror in 'freaky' Ryan Murphy 'Watcher' series". Entertainment Weekly . Retrieved January 27, 2022. The Watcher by Charles Maclean is another great example for the common saying “don’t judge a book by its cover”. When I looked at my review copy and read the synopsis, I thought I knew what was coming: a fast paced horror story, people dying one by one, the protagonist getting madder by the day. Boy, was I wrong. Even though it’s completely different from what I expected, it’s an interesting read and without a doubt nothing like any of the horror stories I’ve read before. Koontz, Dean. Watchers, G.P. Putnam's Sons edition, April 1987. Berkley Publishing Group edition, May 1988. p. 34.This is an easy-to-read thriller, but somehow I just never really got into it. Lily wasn't a very real character to me, and some of the things she did seemed very random (I didn't understand why she suddenly went round to the murder victim's house in the middle of the night, for example). By the end of it, I couldn't remember who all the different suspects were, there were so many of them, and I wasn't that interested in who did it. But if you want an easy read, it does hold the attention.

Despite not being made aware of the original events, Farrow said she was told she would be part of a "Ryan Murphy project" and that she would be taken "nowhere she'd ever been before." I really enjoyed the style of writing with this book as it didn't go over the top to state facts and grab your attention. And the pace never seemed to let up either so it was often quite difficult to put down!!

My sole complaint about the book is the ambiguity of its conclusion. As much as I enjoy the cliffhanger ending in most cases, I’m not too sure I like it here. I will not give away specific details about what happens, but let’s just say I was hoping for a bit more of an explanation.

Much like the flat characters, time didn’t feel ‘real’ in this novel. There was little difference between the passage of days, weeks, or months. This book is about a girl, Margaret who is very shy and quiet. She just sits on the beach everyday and watches the people live their life. I thought it was interesting how the book cover is of a girl, but then its told in the point of view of a boy named Evan who sees her watching him on the beach one day when hes with his family. Evan goes on an adventure to see who this girl is. The girl uses the people she sees in real life and makes them into fictional characters in her own story. Chris is the real Imagine if Quiet Place and Body Snatchers had a more terrifying baby and you might get a sense of this. It has all the feel of an original Grimm fairytale, not the Disney version but the deeply disturbing kind, where monsters are real and life is a battle for survival against the coming of the night.Fleming, Mike Jr. (December 5, 2018). Anyway, so now this new doll is your favorite and you don't care about the old one anymore ad you could even give her away if you had to.
