Zonfrillo got the job. “It was [an] exciting environment to be in,” he writes in Last Shot. “The chefs would be at one end of the kitchen and I’d be at the other, and they’d throw these pans straight off the stove into the sinks. Like, just launching these red-­hot, sizzling missiles past my head.” Of particular interest is renowned British chef Marco Pierre White, with whom Zonfrillo worked in the 1990s. Zonfrillo mentions White 159 times in his book and refers to him as “a father figure” who “saved my life”.
