About this deal

The Adam AX5 is a powerful active studio monitor sporting a 5.5" woofer, 1.5" voice coil, 50 Watt PWN amplifier and Adam’s class-leading X-ART tweeter. Designed to provide ultra-clear audio reproduction, the A5X is hailed by many as a fantastic speaker for use in mixing, mastering, sound design and more. The A5X is popular amongst professionals working in television studios and remote broadcast vans, as well as mixing engineers and home-studio producers and songwriters. My choice was between the diminutive A3X (only about 10 inches high or something and with a 3+ inch effective woofer), the A5X which offered bigger cabinet around 12inch high, 100w RMS per side, and decent frequency response, and finally the A7X which really was my ideal choice, but a little over budget at around 1200chf the pair cheapest option. Also the A7X seemed a big beast at around 14 inches high and with a 7" woofer always seemed a little OTT for a desktop rig; my intended placement for my new acquisitions. Along with my high hopes for the new AX series came a healthy dose of skepticism. As an evangelical fan of the original S3A and A7, I didn’t really think the ADAM line needed to change much, and was worried that the company would lose sight of what made their products great as they tried to open up to an even wider market. German EngineeringAs truly professional reference monitors, every Adam A5X is rigorously tested in the Adam Audio factory in Berlin, and it's clear their engineers have considered every detail. For your convenience, a master … read more up, the A5Xs; a much more balanced sound. And oddly much less apparent bass than the A3X (clearly the designers had hyped up the bass output of the little 3s)

I like the A5X because it's smaller (don't have a ton of room on my desk), has front ports, front power and gain, and can be chained via RCA which is really convenient as a desktop setup.I like the T5V because it's less than half the price of A5X and I know it'll have a similar sound to my old T7V's (I really liked these monitors) that I sold when I quit djing and music production. gain control is located on the front panel, right next to the power switch. If you've ever had to play Twister just to turn on or turn up your monitors in a studio setting, you'll immediately appreciate this design. You'll also find both RCA and XLR inputs on the rear panel. The ‚Tweeter gain‘ function is a part of each AX monitor’s basic configuration and lets you raise or lower the level of the high frequencies by up to 4dB. Beyond that, shelving filters allow further adaptation to room acoustics with the A5X, A7X, A8X and A77X. The low shelf filter allows smooth control of the lower frequencies below 300 Hz from -6 dB to +6 dB, the high shelf EQ is introduced at 2.5 kHz with the same levels from -6 dB to +6 dB. There are plenty of great options on this list, but choosing monitors is a very personal decision. The only way to do it right is by listening. A lot of people praise Genelecs but they are expensive and this model, which is already stretching my budget, is a 5". The a5x are positioned in the middle between the smaller a3x and bigger a7x (I think a a8x also has been released).

My initial worry was that I'd end up with something over-analytical with no soul. My fears are allayed as the inherent musicality of the Mojo shines through these clear windows onto the music. They do really rather sound like a speaker version of my T1s and that saying something. The control panel at the rear no longer shares space with a protruding heatsink, and the screwdriver‑adjustable rotary switches have discrete settings rather than being based on conventional pots, so each setting can be made much more precisely. You'll still find the power switch and volume setting on the front panel, where they can be easily adjusted, but the power LED is now green (blue is apparently no longer fashionable!).Notably, they don't have any perceived deficiencies, certainly not for their price, nor size. Yet we have to put these things into perspective. esq, @darenager, you are probably right, maybe 7" is too much… Let me measure the room tomorrow and I’ll post the dimensions. According to the published spec, the A7Xs have a frequency response of 42Hz to 50kHz, a long‑term output capability of over 106dB and a maximum peak‑level capability of 114dB. I certainly found that there was no shortage of volume for nearfield monitoring! The figure for THD (Total Harmonic Distortion), when operating at a level of 90dB at 1m for frequencies below 100Hz, is less than 0.5 percent. Out Of The Box This subreddit is for the budget minded audiophile that wants to grow out of soundbars, boomboxes, mini systems, portable bluetooth, lifestyle speakers, and PC peripheral branded audio solutions.

Presonus has entered the studio monitor marketplace and created some effective and inexpensive offerings that are worth a look. The A4V is a two-way speaker incorporating a 4-inch long-throw woofer made from the same Multi-Layer Mineral (MLM) fibers as other A Series speakers plus the classic X-ART tweeter. Onboard DSP-based tuning capabilities let you easily dial in the perfect sound for your space. The company initially made its mark with the ART ribbon tweeter, its refinement of the Air Motion Transformer (AMT) designed in the 1960s by Oskar Heil. Instead of producing sound by means of a vibrating diaphragm, the ART (and ADAM Audio’s subsequent generations of the concept, X-ART and S-ART) employs a pleated diaphragm capable of moving the air four times faster than its own folds – hence the ART name (Accelerating Ribbon Technology). But the innovation doesn’t stop with the tweeter. I was veering towards the 8020s with a sub (7040 obviously pairs well, people seem to recommend the JBL LSR 310 S for this too) which I think would probably be ideal for a small room really, the 8010s might be enough with a sub even. But then a good deal on an ex-demo 8030 popped up so I jumped on that, then found it a friend. We focus on education, discussion, and sharing of entry and mid level separate & multi component audio systems.Overall, it's a heady mix and IDEALLY suited to a DAC output like the Chord series which are so highly resolving-yet-musical that they deserve nothing less.

Thanks for all the comments so far, everyone! It’s really fun to discuss this and hear your opinions. up were the A3Xs which sounded really great! Surprisingly so, it was all there; definition, clarity, soundstage, and bass (lots of that). While the bass/mid woofer of the A3X is made of carbon fiber – an extremely resistant material – the woofers of all other AX models are built using a sandwich construction of woven carbon and glass fiber in conjunction with the synthetic material Rohacell. These three materials vary with respect to their physical density, but used in combination they provide an ultra-lightweight yet extremely rigid material with excellent transient response. I’ve been in this same boat recently and ended up spending a lot more than I originally intended on the 8030Cs, though I did get them for a relatively decent price being patient with the used market since they pop up fairly regularly. You can’t go wrong with Genelecs. Bonus is that they are ultra durable and should last you for a very long time.A lot of people online say that the 7" is better for bass-heavy electronic music. I really like the look of the ADAM A nX series… I focused on the A range which seemed to offer the decisive , razor sharp "Adam" sound, and fell within budget. Relative to the KEFs they are a definitive step up in terms of resolution of detail, lower colouration (in the nearfield - equal at distance), bass definition, soundstage depth, separation, dynamics. The A5Xs do sound very similar tonally to the KEFs which surprised me a little; I guess the KEFs are pretty well balanced! I like the A5Xs. They’re slightly mid-forward and extremely detailed, just like a set of ADAM speakers should be. But they’re also more impressive and more fun-sounding than their prior incarnation. Considering investing in a pair of studio monitors? Ask a pro audio engineer, and chances are you'll hear the name "Adam." Adam studio monitors have long been associated with incredible accuracy, premium components -- and a price within reach of mere mortals. The Adam A5X features extended-range ribbon tweeters and re-engineered bass drivers for a more three-dimensional, focused sound. If you're considering studio monitors of this caliber, you'll find Adam monitors live up to their name in every respect.
