About this deal

We’d recommend the Dell UltraSharp 38 to business multitaskers and content creators who need ample space to do their work efficiently. The added productivity hub gives users a versatile platform to complement their workflow. I do want to note there are some extra ports on the chin of the monitor, too. These are quite a ways from the side of the monitor, and it took me a while to notice it was there (before reading Dell’s reviewer’s guide.) The mix includes a Super speed USB Type-A downstream with power charging, and USB-C downstream. All these ports make the monitor a great productivity hub. I never took a dongle out of my draw when using this display on my desk! I’ve used Dell ultra wides in the past, and honestly, I love them. I supposed that sort of spoils the rest of the review. Maybe not, because not all is perfect on the Dell UltraSharp 38, but it almost gets there. Read on for the full review of the Dell UltraSharp 38. Specifications

Just because a monitor is stylish, that doesn’t make it great. The ports and buttons matter, too, and in this area, the Dell UltraSharp 38 Curved USB-C Hub Monitor doesn’t disappoint. This monitor is loaded with all kinds of ports that I found quite useful, and you might, too. To learn more about connecting your monitor to the PC, refer to the Dell knowledge-base article: How do I connect a monitor to a PC? Simplicity is the key. There are only five buttons on the monitor, including the power button, and all of them are chunky and physical. There’s no touch-button nonsense here. The menus that appear are well labeled, with options organized into sensible categories, making them easy to find. Ensure the audio cable is connected correctly between the Audio Line Out port and the external speaker. Picture Quality (Refresh rate of native resolution changes from 60 Hz to 30 Hz or the the color depth drops to 18 bits)With all of the included inputs on the Dell UltraSharp 38, you have yourself a bona fide productivity hub on your hands. I admit the only things I need on any monitor are the power and monitor out cable. I already have a nice hub for my Mac mini M1. But for those who don’t have a hub, this could serve as one for you. When setting up your Dell U3821DW monitor, ensure that the monitor front panel buttons is on the bottom right. Using the Tilt, Swivel, and Vertical Extension Note: This is applicable for a monitor with a stand. When any other stand is bought, please refer to the respective stand setup guide for set-up instructions. A few permanently bright or dark pixels are considered normal by industry standards. The exact number of pixels that are allowed varies depending on the monitor. Refer to Dell Display Pixel Guidelines for more details. When mounted on the wall or on a monitor arm, the set-up must comply to the recommended panel orientation and working angle. It is always essential to isolate the monitor while troubleshooting your computer for the following scenarios: When you notice screen abnormalities like distortion, clarity, horizontal or vertical lines, color fade, it is always a good practice to isolate the monitor by running the Built-In Diagnostics. The bezels all the way around aren’t super slim, but they are thin enough. The Dell logo is the bottom center, and the stand is big. I like that they made a stand beefy enough to support the weight of this monitor. The stand has a nice cut-out to feed your cables up to that pesky I/O array.

However, apart from being expensive, the Dell U3821DW doesn’t present the same level of color accuracy out of the box compared to other models in the same class. Products like the Dell U2720Q and even the older U3818DW showed better imaging performance when measured with a colorimeter. It’s an excellent productivity monitor, but we can only recommend it for editors and creators if they have access to a colorimeter. Where you put your monitor is almost as important as what model you buy. The monitor should be directly in front of you, at an arm’s length away (between 20-40 inches from your eyes). The top edge of the screen at eye level when you are sitting comfortably. You may need to adjust your chair height or the height of the monitor to achieve this. If you’re using this monitor for spreadsheets and office work, you’ll be pleased. In the same vein, those of us who use monitors like this for video editing will be happy as well. It was very nice to see much more of the DaVinci Resolve timeline, making editing much more convenient. Using this for photo editing is equally convenient. Especially when having multiple photo tabs open. Some USB devices like external portable HDD require higher electric current; connect the device directly to the computer.

x 1600 provides a lot of room for your workflow and it’s also great for immersive gaming if it weren’t for the limited refresh rate. The screen doesn’t look as sharp as a 4K display, but it also has a higher pixel count and you won’t have to squint while reading small-font text. Games, on the other hand, will need a powerful GPU but you only have 60Hz to fill so you won’t need the top-end models.Ultrawide monitors aren’t for everyone. Not only are they big, but they can be heavy as well. These big boys are intended for those with multitasking needs, and that generally trumps size and weight. Dell makes great lightweight monitors for general use, but the Dell UltraSharp 38 is for power users who need multitasking ability. That aside, the display on the Dell UltraSharp 38 (U3821DW) has a lot of real estate for some great multitasking. You could fit three windows in the 37.52″ space, but really, two windows fit the best. I found three windows open cut off some areas too much. Still, two good-sized windows open at once is great for multitasking. Energy conservation: Save energy when your monitor is not in use with PowerNap , a feature that dims or puts your monitor to sleep when it’s not in use. A pair of 9-watt speakers are hidden in the U3818DW’s frame. The screen’s size means there is more room than normal, and that benefits the monitor’s sound quality. We found quality to be clear throughout most of the monitor’s range of volume. Remember, though; there’s no subwoofer. You’ll need external speakersto enjoy movies or throw a dance party on your lunch break. Screen pre-calibration
