About this deal

I loved their push and pull relationship, it was so realistic how emotionless Miko was towards Nessa at first, she really was his revenge. I'm so used to this trope but most of the time the Hero instantly starts feeling guilty or soft towards the Heroine, depriving me of the hate-fueled chemistry between couples but in this book I was served ENEMIES-TO -LOVERS excellence. I loved the way Miko slowly progressed with his feelings for Nessa, how he faced the wrath of his men to protect her, and ultimately worked with Callum who he hated and wanted to kill, to prove his devotion and loyalty to Nessa in her families eyes. In fact, I could see this being one of those series that I return to, re-read, and end up up-rating. The drama also felt like it was too easily handled and everything wrapped up nice and neatly at the end.

Bent on revenge, Mikolaj abducts Nessa, holding her captive in his mouldering gothic mansion. As he plots the destruction of everything she holds dear, he finds himself fixated on his little ballerina's newest dance. Of all the evil things I’ve done in my life, and they are legion, I’ve never forced myself on a woman. It’s the one thing I won’t do.” This is a mafia spin on Beauty and the Beast and I honestly loved how Lark handled it. I loved that there was an old dark musty mansion in this with a east wing and west wing, a huge library and a housekeeper who barely understands English. I found it charming and intense at the same time. I loved the whole "if you really love something you must let it go" nod to the original story. The amount of history research for all the rival mafias in Chicago and attention to detail was great. I loved all the dialogue in Polish between Miko and his guys. I loved that Miko felt atypical even for an anti-hero, his cunning intelligence was probably the most attractive thing about him. And the whole full body sleeve tattoos? It worked. 🔥 This is the second instalment in what I think is a fantastic series! I've never felt compelled to read Mafia Romance as it really isn't my thing. I decided to give Brutal Prince a go and man oh man I am hooked. I couldn't wait for Stolen Heir to be delivered to my kindle and let me tell you it has not disappointed me one bit! She also touched him while he was sleeping and that made me uncomfortable bc he may want you butttt that doesn’t give you the right to just go to the guys room and touch him the way you did while he is asleep and he literally pushed your hand away a couple minutes ago when you also tried it- PLUS IT DID NOT FIT HER CHARACTER ONCE AGAIN SHE IS SUPPOSED TO BE THIS SWEET INNOCENT SHY VIRGIR OR WHATEVER ANS SHES OUT HERE STRIPPING AND TOUCHING HIM LIKE THAT BAE THAT IS NOT THE DEFINITION OF SHY

And I know who did this. I’ve seen the way they look at her, whenever she leaves our flat to go to school. I see them leaning against their expensive cars, arms folded, their sunglasses failing to conceal how they leer at her. Sometimes they even shout things at her, though she never turns her head or answers. I was a corpse when I met you, Nessa,” he says. “No breath. No heart. No life. I felt nothing. I cared about nothing. Then I saw you, and you woke me up inside. I was such a fool at first. I was so numb that I thought that spark must be hatred. If I was a normal person, I would have realized it was love. Love at first sight. From the second I laid eyes on you.” This book is a beauty and the beast retelling and I absolutely loved it. The description of the house was well written and I felt like I was there. I don’t mind nice innocent heroines, but ugh I wanted Nessa to fight more! I was so frustrated by how she surrendered completely to her feelings towards him. She showed no struggle, no inner conflict and it was kinda unrealistic tbh. I know she’s the obedient sheltered daughter, but she was too agreeable in a situation where she should’ve been more conflicted at least?

The romance. No slow burn, no tension, no consent. The moment he felt like he wanted her, he kissed her. I’ll go deeper into this later. Loved Miko and his gothic vibes that was so hot! Blond men are growing on me lately. Nessa our good girl (this could have been a flop but thank god it was a bop) loved her soft vibes. Callum and Aida's story Brutal Prince was an explosive ride and the glimpses of Nessa made me super excited to read her book! This story is more then just an enemies to lovers - it’s a fairy tale retelling - beauty and the beast. If I start talking about Nessa then I won't be able to shut up about how flat she was as a character so I'm going to stop myself right here. Fearful of the consequences if she tries to escape, Nessa resigns herself to her fate. Her initial hunger strike pays no dividends except making her weak, so she sets about making her stay less like an incarceration. Nessa is so pure hearted and loveable that she soon befriends her maid and with her help she makes her prison more habitable, much to Mikolaj’s annoyance.

Also, I'm not Polish, but some of the sentences used in the book seemed a bit off, hopefully a Polish speaker can confirm. For the first time since losing his twin sister, Mikolaj has allowed love into his heart... but at what cost? Love has changed him. It has altered his focus. Instead of blood, he wants an alliance but that’s not the Braterstwo way. His brother-in-arms Jonas is furious but also sees his opportunity to take the helm. It took me quite some time to warm up to mikolaj's character. His anger was understandable but I found him to be just so mean to nena, with the way he spoke to her and the way he thought so little of her.

It's a retelling of The Beauty and the Beast, which shows more in some parts than others. Like when Miko abducts her, and tells her she can go anywhere except the west wing. And you know, she also calls him Beast, there's that. Then a Russian character reinforces the stereotype that Slavic (in his case Russian) girls are whores because Petra was clearly not enough to convince us. It isn’t true that twins can read each other’s minds. But I do know my sister. I know her very well.
