About this deal

A tasty, if not always tasteful, tale of supernatural mayhem that fans of King and Crichton alike will enjoy. If you are looking for a sun-soaked, fast-paced, keep-you-up-till-the-early-hours thriller for summer 2022 then my god this is it!’ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I will say that it was odd to my American ears to hear the women constantly referred to as “the hens”. I’m familiar with hen-do’s and stag-do’s, but I’ve never heard women on a hen do so frequently referred to as “hens”. I’m curious to hear if this is a normal British phrase! As usual Lucy's books are set near the sea and this one sees Lexi and 5 of her friends heading to the Greek island of Aegos for her hen party to celebrate her upcoming wedding. All the women said that Ed’s death was just an accident. Ana and Lexi stayed friends. Eleanor was slowly healing. Fen and Robyn got married. The Review:

Ed showed up to tell Lexi about Ana. It came out that he had bullied and abused Eleanor for their whole lives, and he was responsible for the injury that put Sam in the hospital the night he died. Ana had gotten pregnant with Luca when Ed raped her. Lucy Clarke goes from strength to strength; this utterly addictive, trouble-in-paradise novel is her best yet. The plot shifts like sand beneath the reader’s feet.” — Erin Kelly, bestselling author of Watch Her Fall Overall this is a good easy read and maybe a perfect novel to take poolside as you sip the drink of your choice. It is in turn haunting and gorgeously scenic as it tells the story of freedom, friendship, and a desire to leave the past in the past. I loved One Of The Girls: beautiful writing, suffused with menace, complicated female heroines, and an ending I couldn’t predict.” — Gillian McAllister, bestselling author of That NightSix women (Bella, Fen, Robyn, Eleanor, Ana, Lexi) have traveled to a sun-soaked Greek island for Lexi's hen weekend. What should have been fun in the sun, turned into much, much, more. One of the women, has a secret. But who, which one and what secret? This would make a great book for lounging by the pool or relaxing on vacation. This doesn't take much thought and is an enjoyable read.

But nothing’s tranquil in a thriller and the table is set as the six women invited to the four day getaway each had a distinct voice and agenda. We know from the beginning that someone is murdered, but who? Six women get together for a weekend to celebrate an upcoming wedding. The hen weekend (they’re British) will take place at the villa of an aunt of one of the women. The villa is in a small town in Greece, high in the hills but right on the water. If you can make it down the steep slope, you can swim in the quiet cove. But if you don’t want to, there is still the pool, which is close to the kitchen, where all the alcohol is. Many times when I read a thriller filled with secrets, I roll my eyes because the secrets the people are keeping seem ridiculous. In this book, however, the secrets are dark and very surprising. But this story isn't told just from Bella's perspective. She just happens to be the person that I connected with the most; take from that what you will. Sam’s death was medical malpractice. Bella had been the nurse on duty and prescribed him the medicine he was allergic to.The narrative is not very suspenseful or dramatic; tension and anxiety is foreshadowed in that we know all six women are holding secrets but the pacing is slow, tedious and the reader has to get through a lot of filler before secrets are revealed. This took me a while to get into and to get a handle on the characters and the POVs. The two narrators do a good job, although the different POVs would have been more distinctive if each character had it's own narrator. I did find it rather confusing that only two narrators were used, but each chapter had a different POV!

We know from the beginning that someone dies. We just don't know who, why, or how. This idea propels the story forward, and as the secrets are brought to light, I found myself changing my mind again and again as to who it could be. The setting in Greece was perfect! I appreciated the descriptions of the location and of the food.😍 🇬🇷 When Lucy Clarke is not writing her novels, she can often be found in the outdoors. Being a very outdoorsy person, she loves to engage in camping, paddleboarding, hiking, windsurfing and barbecuing with friends.

Clarke patiently and skillfully layers on the tension until the book reaches a final, powerful crescendo that reveals the surprising answers to those questions… Clarke elevates her story with a thoughtful examination of the intricacies of female friendship and women’s lives.” –BookReporter.com That said, I always wish a new story success, whether it's my cup of tea or not, and I do hope this book finds its way to the right people, even though I wasn't one of them. However, it was not until she was 30 that she signed her first book deal. By this time she had a ton of rejection letters enough to paper a full wall. As such she literally had weak knees when her agent called to say a publisher had made an offer for her novel. The crew of the pleasure boat is composed of young travelers with wanderlust and it is not long before the two girls’ dream of romance comes true. So, what makes this story so compelling? The people. I loved them all, to varying degrees! Jeezum crow! Did these women have secrets!😍
