About this deal

Absolutely! They freeze really well! After the frosting has dried, just place the pop tarts in a ziptop freezer bag and place in the freezer. Don’t forget to label them! Expert Tips:

Powdered sugar - The base of the frosting. Sift it ahead of time if you want super silky smooth frosting. Tart apples like Fuji or Granny Smith work the best. At the end of the day, you could use any variety or even mix and match a couple different kinds. Storing Leftovers for LaterPlan ahead. There is some waiting time involved in this recipe. You want your pop-tart pastry dough to rest in the fridge (ideally overnight) and the apple cinnamon filling to cool completely before assembling. I recommend making the pie dough and the apple filling the day before. You can even make the cream cheese filling ahead of time and refrigerate it overnight, but make sure to bring it to room temperature before assembling the pop-tarts, so you can easily spread it. Unroll one pie crust. Use a rolling pin to roll the circle into more of a rectangle shape. Use a knife to cut off the rounded edges, to give you an exact rectangle. Cut the rectangle into 6 equal rectangles, to form the pop-tart crust. Reserve the edges you cut off. Repeat with second crust. To make optional glaze: combine powdered sugar, vanilla, and 1–2 tablespoons of milk into a small mixing bowl, whisking until glaze is smooth. Add additional milk, if needed to get the right consistency. Then we roll out the dough and cut it into cute little squares. Starting to look like pop tarts, right!?

Step 2 : Make the apple butter. Once the apples are soft, scoop them into a blender or food processor. Try to leave behind most of the juices in the skillet. Blend up the apples until they reach a jam like consistency and there aren't any large chunks of apple left.Step 5: (See photo 5 above). Roll one sheet of store bought pie dough or puff pastry into a 9 by 12 inch rectangle. The first thing you need is a good, reliable pastry recipe. I decided to use my Tender Pie Crust! What better pastry to use for these delicious pop tarts than a pie crust? But you can always buy frozen pie dough! I’ve used granulated sugar in the apple pie filling then sprinkled brown sugar on the pastry before spooning on the apples. Kitchen Tools for Making Pop Tarts Step 5 : Add the frosting! First, make sure the pop tart has cooled down slightly before adding the frosting. It's okay if it's slightly warm but you don't want it piping hot or the frosting will melt. I personally like to wait until it's at room temperature.

You will want to place it on a flat, floured surface to mix together with your hands when it’s just about to come together. Make the cream cheese filling. This filling is just 3 ingredients - cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla. Cream it all together - that’s it. Make sure the cream cheese is at room temperature so your mixture is smooth and lump-free. This will also make it easier to spread onto the pop-tart dough. In another bowl, begin making your dough by mixing your flour, cinnamon and salt well. Add your chilled, cubed butter and incorporate using a pastry cutter or a fork, squishing the butter into the dry ingredients until it has a sandy texture.
