About this deal

Partnered with NappiCycle – the UK’s only nappy recycling service, working to keep nappies out of landfill. To me, a relatively unimportant element, but with plenty of rival brands trying to corner the market in adorable nappy designs, Pura has given thought to aesthetics. Simple white nappies with cute patterns inspired by nature keep things simple and not too twee. No silly mantras or affirmations here (trust me, they get very patronising during a 3am nappy change), just a nice looking nappy. The debate is a fierce one in some circles and can cause anxiety and guilt among the more eco-leaning parents. In 2005, there was uproar when the UK government published research claiming “it was no more environmentally friendly to use reusable nappies than disposables”. A similar report three years later reversed these claims. Then a report found that, yes, biodegradable nappies do degrade, it can take up to 50 years and such products have been found to produce more methane, which is bad for the environment. How do you get the perfect fit to prevent leaks?

We set out to create an environmentally-friendly nappy that doesn’t compromise on nappy performance, bottom comfort or value for money. The result is the happiest nappy all-round. The cost of nappies can vary depending on the brand you choose. Supermarket own-label nappies are generally cheaper than big brands such as Pampers.

Awarded the EU Ecolabel (meaning they meet the highest environmental standards), Pura nappies feature a super-absorbent, FSC-certified, plant fibre inner core and are produced with 100% renewable electricity and no production waste. If you are a first time parent, finding the right newborn nappy for your new addition can be daunting. Pura offers a premium nappy at an affordable price without skimping on quality. You will be going through a lot of nappies in those first few weeks, which could work out to be quite expensive, but these premium nappies cost a reasonable 12p per nappy and are one of the best we’ve come across thanks to their velvety soft and hypoallergenic organic cotton material.

So relax knowing that you're striking the best possible balance between a happy planet and a happy baby. As for the perfect nappy? We're working on it. The fit was great. That’s the first thing I really noticed as I popped a nappy on our 19-month-old daughter . She’s a little baby bean pole, all legs and no bottom, so she’s slim but tall, meaning that she often falls between sizes. Not here though, as the size 4 was perfect for her 10kg frame. The velcro-ish tabs were super tough and everything felt comfortable, not pinchy around her thighs at all. She was especially active during the day, so I can only assume she was more comfortable than usual. All messes were perfectly contained, with no sign of imminent leaking, but it would be the night test that was the real proof. For each nappy brand we asked parents to rate five key features: absorbency, comfort, ease of use, fit and value for money. From reusables, to pull-ups, and those made for swimming, we’ve tested every type of nappy to provide reliable and detailed information about our recommendations. We rate nappies on everything from level of absorbency, to how easy they are to put on and take off, and how well they perform to keep baby dry through the night. You’ll even find a breakdown of the cost per nappy in the key specs at the end of each review. Each entry in our final shortlist is given an award for the area in which it stands out over the competition.
