About this deal

She stays with a friend of her aunts, Rose who claims to be a psychic she is a unique character who seems to be well known in the area and hopefully we will see more of her in future books. Nothing to Hide is a terrific addition to the series. It’s very interesting to follow DC Constance Fairchild’s career and to follow her relationship with her family and colleagues.

Trouble always seems to find her, and even if she has nothing to hide, perhaps she has everything to lose…. DC Con Fairchild is recovering her balance, her health and her career following a high profile case which has left her the focus of media attention and forced her into hiding to escape that. Returning to London from a Highland retreat she finds herself confronted by a mutilated young man, barely alive and almost on her doorstep. Although she's supposed to be suspended from work, work seems not to be willing to suspend itself from her and she is pulled into a new investigation. The Hangman’s Song, which is the third book in the Inspector McLean series, was initially published in February 2014. In this book, there is a series of seemingly suicide cases wherein three Edinburgh residents take their own lives. But their suicide notes point to a creepy helical trail, implying that a murderous person or thing is on the loose. Detective McLean is on the quest for reconciling the suspicious murders and sleuthing organized crime all the while. Propaganda writing is not entertaining to the reader, even when presented as a thriller, the characters have to fit the new woke patterns of a world that does not exist and has never existed the main character is a woman but her relations with men is obscure and mostly horrible, she is upper class and rich but she hates it and has joined the proletariat to show her family she is better, we have the obligatory transgender character, that is also asexual (to complicated to explain sexual tates, suffice to add one of the required quotas and the writing will be fine; after all it is just propaganda) when a religious ritual of blood and torture is performed by a person or group of different culture it must be explained that they are not practicing their religion in the right way this covers all possible complications of being culturally insensitive or worst. James Oswald was a writer of Fantasy books before he was persuaded by fellow Scottish author Stuart MacBride that crime fiction was a better and more popular genre and so he launched the very successful Inspector McLean series of books which whilst they were police procedurals as is the Constance Fairchild series have an element of fantasy in them. The pacing is superb - bursts of action and dread then quieter moments to process what we've just experienced, plus plenty to get the "just one more chapter" muscles working overtime - and the setting is beautifully realised, showing the darker sides of this seemingly idyllic area. The fact that I finished this book at all, and until near the end was contemplating giving it four stars is a testament to Oswald’s skill as a writer. I don’t like Con Fairchild, but the story kept me going until close to the end – it was only then, and when I sat down to think about what I’d read, that the weaknesses became apparent.

The story revolves around a young mans body which Con finds behind the bins near where she lives. He has been brutally mutilated but is still alive. It seems this is not the only incident of this nature happening as it has happened nationwide. The female characters come across much better written and empathetic here. Most of the male characters seem one-dimensional, and generally grumpy and / or dumb. There’s a potential love interest with an old friend of her brother’s, but that storyline doesn’t develop very far. Once again, Mr Oswald creates fantastic characters even ones of the four legged variety; I absolutely loved Gelert the deerhound who embodies the phrase "[wo]man's best friend" and I guarantee you will want a Gelert in your life albeit without the flatulence! Nonetheless, while trying to carry on with normal-ish life, she still manages to find a mutilated near-dead body of a young man as she takes out the rubbish at her flat. (a bit of rubbish convenient plot point, but let’s bin that thought).

When Con goes out for a drink she attracts the attention of two predators; though when they pounce she manages to defend herself. Yet she is the one arrested! While in custody she meets Lila, a young Ukrainian woman, who has run away from her manipulative boyfriend who had forced her into illegal activities.s there such a thing as magnetic energy? If there is, I’m pretty sure Con Fairchild has it. Everywhere she goes, she attracts those whose energy has different vibrations. Sometimes these are good; as often pretty bad, but she is incapable of going through life unaffected by the energy that pulls on the warp and weft of the world.
