About this deal

We are going to take a look at some of the best examples of 36mm dive watches that are as capable as they are wearable. Before we dive (pun completely intended) into the list, let’s first identify exactly what a dive watch is, some of the history, and who would actually want a 36mm example. About Dive Watches Unlike the more common photoluminescent lumes, the glow is perpetual and won’t fade after a few hours. Momentum M-Ocean There are, unfortunately, a number of variables that affect how large a watch appears on ones wrist: the width, the length (often described as the “lug-to-lug” measurement), the size of the dial (note that most dive watches have a relatively small dial because of the rotating bezel.) Strapcode has some of the best SKX013 replacement bracelets you can find right now. Which Small Diver Will You Choose?

If you have small wrists and a love for dive watches, you might consider this a cursed combination. However, as a skinny-wristed fellow and a long-time admirer of classic sporty divers myself, I can assure you that there are more options for us out there than you may think. There are a plethora of correctly sized 38mm watches for smaller wristed men, in all price ranges. I’d also like to point out it’s not just the bezel size that affects comfort, any lug to lug (total length) over 47mm can pose a problem. For me the sweet spot is 45mm, I can stretch it to 48mm maximum. Choosing a 18mm through 20mm lug width over 22mm+ will also have an effect of the appearance. Why do these seafaring tools tend to be large? Men who dive need big legible watches since they wear masks. They also need to be able to work the bezel and buttons even while wearing gloves.

The bezel is brown and the triangles red blends in very easily, making reading the bezel challenging. This red accent color is also used to display the 200m text underneath the 6 pm indice. I missed this almost entirely until I started viewing with my macro lens. The distortion of the crystal hides the text completely at most angles.

The revered Seiko SKX may be the most produced dive watch on the planet. It certainly has a cult following and has a ton of after market mods you can make to it. I have one and I love it. But it’s a pretty beefy watch. Seiko smartly came out with the SKX013 which is much smaller than the original SKX. I love when watchmakers do this, obviously there are a lot of different size humans on the planet, not everyone can wear a 42mm dive watch. The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms is the original dive watch. Others came out just afterward, but Blancpain was the first. This is a smaller version of the current Fifty Fathoms, and just as capable. You couldn’t ask for a finer watch than the Fifty Fathoms. Breitling’s Superocean Heritage – 38mm If you’re on the hunt for 36mm watches, browsing through vintage-inspired timepieces is almost always the best place to look. While last year’s list of modern divers for small wrists featured the Oris Divers Sixty-Five, this time let’s take a look at the vintage Oris dive watches that inspired the modern Sixty-Five. Throughout the 1960s, you’ll find a variety of small, slim Oris dive watches and skin divers, with a variety of names on the dial. I find that any watch over 13mm is difficult to get under a dress shirt. Your mileage may vary. Water Resistance

While chunky, the Marathon Medium Search and Rescue Diver is one of the smallest MilSpec pieces to see action on the front lines in recent years. Known for their rugged construction and tritium tubes, these watches are built to endure the harshest of conditions, and their aesthetic is certainly tailored to that.

When you think of the brand Breitling, more than likely, a highly complicated chronograph design for pilots comes to mind. Breitling has created a remarkable legacy for itself in this space, but they do create many other watches that are worthy of attention. The Breitling Superocean line is one that deserves more attention than it currently receives. This line of dive watches is very broad and contains options for almost anyone.

Now I’m 6’1”, 200lbs and I have a 7 inch wrist. I’m not exactly a small person. There are plenty of blokes walking around who have six to seven inch wrists who want to wear a dive watch that isn’t too big for them. If you are looking for a dive watch for a small wrist, this post is for you. The width or diameter of the watch is from the outside to the outside minus the crown or crown guards. This does not include the lugs. If you have a small wrist you want to be shooting for something under 40mm. A more affordable alternative to Rolex that can give a user a very similar ownership experience at a fraction of the price. Like most watches even associated with Rolex, that affordability part of the equation has slipped out of the grasp of many vintage collectors as most Tudor Submariner examples will fetch premiums near their Rolex big brother depending on condition. Because of the interest in recreational diving and water activities like surfing and snorkeling, many of these watches carried the Skindiver case style, capable of decent water resistance, while costing significantly less than the true dive watches of the day from brands like Omega and Rolex. I prefer the blue one (which is also what James Bond wore in the movies) but you might want to make your choice of color depending on your skin tone. Even Smaller Omega Dive Watches

Personally I think a formal or dress watch should also be carefully chosen. Dropping the size to 36mm or 38 will give a desired look. Sorry but I disagree with wearing a dive watch on formal or business occasions, I’m aware it’s common practice however, not correct. Since its introduction in 1953, the model remained largely unchanged and has become the quintessential dive watch. If you intend to dive with the watch you are purchasing you want a 200 meter water resistance rating. Anything less will not do. The List – With Diameter Listed Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean – 39.5mm To me (and to the ISO), a few things define a dive watch: water resistance to at least 100m (most in this list have more than 200m), strong lume on the hands and hour markers, and a rotating diver’s bezel. The 40 mm (1.6”) diameter and the generally clunky dive watch design make it appear too big on most modest men’s wrists. The Omega Seamaster Diver 300M, ref. 212.30.36.20.03.001, is a 36.25mm stainless steel watch that features all of the characteristics of the previous generation’s full-size version. The helium escape valve, skeleton sword hands, and scalloped bezel are all present in this compact dive watch. The watch still utilizes the Co-Axial escapement in the form of the Caliber 2500, building off of the architecture of the ETA 2892. Overall, the SeaQ is a bold but clean sport watch that boasts enjoyable mechanical-feeling operations. Breitling SuperOcean 36
