About this deal

If, like many others, you are keen to keep your home chemical-free, you will be pleased to learn that many of the methods of removing water stains from wood can be carried out with natural products alone —kinder on you and the planet. Choose a low heat setting on your iron, then iron over the tea towel, moving continuously in a circular motion for around 10 seconds.

From dining tables to floorboards, coffee tables, nightstands, cabinetry, and sideboards, you’re guaranteed to have at least one wooden surface in your home. The verdict: I started by trying it out on the very dark water stain under the coffee machine. After some scrubbing (the product comes as a powder that needs to be worked into the stain with a wet cloth or sponge), the stain had, much to my surprise, noticeably lightened. From moisture stains to burn marks and dark blemishes, we cover how to remove every kind of stain you might face. We also send coronavirus updates at 5pm on weekdays, and a round up of the week's must-read stories on Sunday afternoons.Wood stains come in various forms, and the approach to removing them depends on the type and severity of the stain. And finally, if all those homemade remedies haven't quite cut the mustard, it might just be time to bite the bullet and part with some hard-earned cash to buy a product specifically designed to remove water stains.

Moisture stains, often seen as white rings or spots on wood surfaces, are caused by the interaction of water and the finish on the wood.

For heat marks, mix one part toothpaste with two parts bicarb to form a paste. Apply to the stain, leave for 10 minutes, then wipe off with a cloth. Please note – Always test on a small area first to ensure that it is compatible with the surface finish. If you haven’t got one, then a pillowcase or t-shirt will work too. Just make sure they’re plain white to avoid the risk of colour bleeding. The Ring remover is only suitable on highly polished surfaces. White marks made by water or heat on waxed surfaces may be removed using our polish reviver and wax.

My verdict: I must say, I approached this one feeling doubtful about the results I would receive. While I have successfully used an iron to remove wax from carpet, it seemed highly unlikely that it was going to get rid of the white (or dark) water marks on my wooden worktops. If you’ve read any of our other cleaning guides, you’ll have no doubt come across these two products before.Moisture can enter the wood through a variety of ways, such as leaks, spills, or even high humidity levels in the surrounding environment. Feeling a bit dubious about running an iron over your wooden table? Or maybe you’ve already tried that and it didn’t work? Then here are some other ways to remove heat marks from wood without applying more heat. Method 1: Toothpaste and bicarbonate of soda Shake the container well before use. Apply Liberon Ring Remover using a clean, lint-free cotton cloth and rub vigorously in a circular motion over the mark until it is removed. Then rub over the surface in strait motions in the direction of the grain. You may need to then use the ring remover over the entire section to get an even shine. Buff with a clean, dry cotton cloth then wax or polish as normal. cup ring mark being removed finished surface
