It is a spacious mid-tower case that supports up to an E-ATX motherboard and comes with all the essential features and goodies. The case is roomy and can support eight 3.5”/2.5” drives, two 2.5” drives, and a 5.25” drive, where you can also fit a 3.5”/2.5” drive. For cooling, the case comes pre-installed with two 140mm fans in the front and one 140mm fan at the rear. The fan speed can be controlled using the in-built fan speed controller inside the case.

At this size, a standard Intel Xeon E3/ Xeon E heatsink will work fine, but it is a tight fit for any aftermarket coolers. Next, is the PSU depth specification at 100mm, this falls into the SFX PSU size. x 10GBASE-T RJ45, support 10G/5G/2.5G/1G/100M Five-speedNote: Please use CAT6a or CAT 7 network route (additional) to achieve 10GbE transmission speed The R6 (hot swap) stands out as a compelling 6-bay NAS enclosure that strikes the right balance between form, function, and expandability. With dimensions of 243 * 255 * 221mm, it boasts a build made from high-strength 1.0mm galvanized steel combined with aluminum panels, reflecting a high-grade aesthetic that complements its robust structure. Designed to accommodate a Mini-ITX motherboard sized 17cm x 17cm, it ensures compatibility without compromising on space. Critical to its functionality, the enclosure supports a 1U power supply of size 15 * 8 * 4 cm, while ensuring the CPU radiator height stays within a 40mm threshold. Its efficient thermal management is further accentuated with a 12CM fan, ensuring optimal operating temperatures. A standout feature is its capacity to support either 6 3.5″ or 6 2.5″ hot-swappable drives, offering versatility and ease of access. Notably, while the power unit is not included, it is compatible with the POS small 1U power specification. The R6 also offers a standard open key and a convenient USB interface for added connectivity. For those considering scaling up from a 4-bay NAS, the R6 presents an enticing proposition. It offers 50% more storage capacity, granting users the flexibility to handle increasing data needs while maintaining a compact footprint. All these attributes make the R6 not just a viable choice, but a forward-thinking investment for those prioritizing both space and data scalability.

Support of Multiple Users concurrently, each with tailored access and privileges that can be customized on the fly I know I can’t deploy Synology Servers or replace drives if they will PERPETUALLY alert of “Important data may be lost”. A client would consider this a fireable offense. Have NO confidence in me as their consultant or Synology as a solution to protect their data. I own and have tried QNAP, but HATE the interface… But I MAY have to switch to them for clients [and personally] to avoid these SUPER SCARY alerts. Norco ITX-S8 Mini-ITX Case – Supports 8 hot-swappable SAS 6G or SATA III drives and one 2.5” drive. When looking at the price discrepancy, you have to realize (a) I already had the 8TB SSDs, from some projects I tested last year... most people don't have those things laying around, and (b) I will actually use that much low-latency storage... most people probably don't and would be better off with less SSD storage and more spinning disks (which are much cheaper per TB). Details Every minute of 4K ProRes LT footage (which is a very lightweight format, compared to RAW) is 3 GB of space. A typical video I produce has between 30-60 minutes of raw footage (which brings the total project size up to around 100-200 GB). Support for RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 6, RAID 10, RAID 50, RAID 60 and the always popular and SHR (Synology Hybrid RAID) Most of what I do as a Mac Consultant is Synology Server support. But I’m totally terrified of this alerts on my own Synology Servers and my clients servers too.

Bays, 2x M.2 NVMe 2280, Intel N5105 4-Core 2.0-2.9Ghz CPU, 8-32GB Memory, 2x 2.5Gbe Port, 4K HDMI 2.0b Port (Code/Command Level Access, no GUI), USB 3.2 Gen 2 10G, 3yr Warranty Front Panel: Power Button; Reset Button; Power and Storage Activity LEDs; Each Drive Caddy has Power and Activity Indicators. The most modern and regularly updated NAS systems will support the very latest 20TB NAS hard drives (such as the Seagate Ironwolf 22TB and WD Red 22TB) Thanks again for a very complete, informative and comprehensive video, much appreciated. I made the right decision for our needs. To edit footage well, the data not only needs to move fast (1 Gbps barely cuts it for a single stream), it also needs to have very low latency, otherwise Final Cut Pro (my editor of choice) lags quite a bit while scrubbing over dozens of video clips.

BIOS and UEFI

The fans utilized are 3-pin units. We would have preferred here if the fans were 4-pin PWM units which allows easier control of the fan speed. In 2019, virtually every motherboard that one would use in this chassis has 4-pin fan headers. With the SATA SSD installed, I was able to get consistent performance using a striped RAIDZ mirror pool with four SSDs and a hot spare—but that performance stayed around 320 MB/sec writes over long periods of time! That's only a third of the available bandwidth, and only a little better than the 200-250 MB/sec I was getting on my 2.5 Gigabit NAS. Drive Bays: 2x removable 3.5in SATA/SATA II Hard Drive bays (SAS/SATAII compatible, hot swappable - if supported by motherboard); 1x 2.5in SSD/HDD bay.
