About this deal

As an aside there are few ways to hook IFTTT into HomeKit, Homebridge being one of them, but I’m using the awesome Pushcut app for this. It’s not free, but it’s a lot simpler and adds a bunch of other automation capabilities.

Lifx A19 LED Bulbs are another great HomeKit-compatible option. Delivering 1,100 lumens, they’re about as bright as a 75-watt incandescent bulb. However, they’re energy-efficient at only 11 watts, and they have a 22-year lifespan. With 16 million color options and no hub required, Lifx A19s offers a lot in a compact-sized bulb, including the Candle Color, the first smart LED bulb that can emit multiple colors of light at once. Thread is truly a game-changer for HomeKit and the smart home. With Thread, you no longer have to worry about managing dedicated hubs or accounts for every device in your home with its direct to HomePod mini — and HomeKit connection. More importantly, with lightning-fast response times and excellent reliability, you don't have to worry about your smart home suddenly losing its smarts. The Netatmo Smoke Alarm is the only device I came across that’s available in the UK and directly supports HomeKit. It doesn’t connect directly to a HomePod, you’ll need to connect it to your Wi-Fi router and set it up with the native app before adding it to HomeKit. Scheduled Time, which is limited to Time of Day and Day of Week rather than allowing specific dates. All of the apps expose the same functionality, either being able to enter a specific time of day (hour and minute) as well as the days of the week that it will trigger, or a Sunrise/Sunset value along with an offset time before or after that. This allows HomeKit to calculate the correct trigger time based on your location and time of year. One of the best features of the Onvis CT3 door/window sensor is its ability to integrate with other HomeKit-enabled accessories to create powerful automations. Here’s how to get started building automations using this device:To get notifications for your HomeKit and Matter accessories when you're not at home, set up a home hub. It’s simple to set up, but you need to remember to set it up in the Meross app before adding it to HomeKit. After you’ve connected your Hive devices to HomeKit, you’ll be able to control them simply by asking Siri, just like if you were talking to another person. Even though there aren’t a lot of smart home systems that require bridges, they can be crucial in some cases. As you might expect from their name, bridges connect the Home app and HomeKit with a particular brand’s devices, guaranteeing compatibility. They are essential for people who want to increase the functionality of their favorite brands. Once you have the two Eve Door & Window pieces installed, you can add the accessory to HomeKit by scanning the QR code on the sensor module with your iPhone’s camera; doing so will jump you directly to the Apple Home app, where you can group the sensor with other HomeKit devices in a given room. In my case, I added the sensor to the kitchen.

I prefer using smart bulbs as they are the cheapest and easiest option, although they render your existing light switches useless. Alternatively, smart switches give you access to both physical switches and smart features, but you won’t have access to coloured bulbs. While Eve Door & Window are compatible with HomeKit and Thread, it doesn’t work with Alexa or Google Assistant. That means the sensor is pretty much only for Apple users. Having an action continue UNTIL something happens or WHILE a condition is true can also be achieved with a dummy switch and multiple triggers. The process is very similar to creating a delay action. It could look something like this: When it comes to the cool factor, there’s just something awesome about your blinds or curtains opening by themselves in the morning. This is no longer the work of sci-fi, Siri can now handle that for you. If you’ve got blinds, unfortunately, I can’t recommend any good smart blinds for HomeKit right now but hopefully, something will launch soon. Each sensor can be named after a corresponding door or window so you will know immediately where to look for threats.

Update your iPhone or iPad to the latest version of iOS or iPadOS. To use the Home app on Mac, update your Mac to the latest version of macOS. Choose a trigger: The first step in building a HomeKit automation with the Onvis CT3 is to choose it a trigger. Go to the Home app, look for the + button, tap on “add automation.” Then tap on “a sensor detects something.” Now you’ll want to look for the sensor. As an addendum to this discussion, I wanted to call out some of the most useful third-party tools that can be used to enhance your HomeKit automations. These are most definitely power user tools, so will take some learning and configuration, and possibly additional hardware as well. In many cases, though, you’ll find they add a lot of utility that can solve some of the deficiencies in HomeKit. The advantage of this is that your older Wemo devices will work with your system again. The Apple TV 4K is also a terrific, trustworthy bridge for HomeKit devices. Stay tuned for Matter CSA Choose an accessory automation: You’ll now want to select “do you want this trigger to occur when it opens or closes” and based on either a time or people arriving/leaving.Although Google recently added HomeKit support to the popular Nest Learning Thermostat, I recommend you consider an alternative device from Tado which offers better functionality at a cheaper price. won’t understand how to boost your heating. However, you can set up a ‘boost’ command using Siri Shortcuts. Once you’ve done this, it will work alongside HomeKit. We can do this a bit more directly using Shortcuts as we can use an actual IF-THEN-OTHERWISE scripting action (this alternative is also covered in the toggle switch example), and these can be nested as well for more complexity. There are still some limitations with this approach though, as you can’t access the People conditions or sunset/sunrise time constraints within a shortcut. If you need those you’ll have to make do with the multiple automation method.
