About this deal

Doesn't have an artificially inflated word count, every paragraph gives you something ( story progression or character development) With a steady diet of card shards — as many as Arthur could get his hands on — Brixaby had grown more than eight times the size he’d been as a hatchling. Ok, I am going to combine grammar and style mainly because there is not much I can say on the matter really. I really enjoy the style that this story is written in. I love getting the odd POV chapter or segment of a chapter. I find that it quite refreshing and that it helps flesh out the supporting cast of characters. The overall grammar quality of this story is quite good, there are still a few mistake but I don't think I have read a single story on here that doesn't have them.

These were the two purples in the class. The only ones aside from Brixaby who were still too small to carry their riders. Purples generally didn’t fill a combat role during scourge-eruptions. Traditionally, they were couriers or independent rescue units to evacuate those who couldn't get out of the way. So they were excused from all but the most basic formation flying. At the very last second, a rider on a brown looked up, saw the two diving purples, and yelled out a warning. Four months into the six-month training course for new dragon riders, only Brixaby and the two purples were not yet considered large and strong enough to carry their riders. Pretending he hadn’t heard them, Arthur went on. “Willard and Morrice can make themselves useful tending the dragon soil pits — Morrice is a nature dragon. Fertilizer should be up his alley. Then, when the next class is up to this level in a month or two, hopefully, they will be mature enough to join and complete their training.”Arthur’s only concern was for Cressida and Joy. As Joy was a Rare, she took up the protected middle spot in the lower diamond. Relatively chill, not quite slice of life as while theres plenty of action, mc has a utility power.

Arthur barely had time to grip the saddle under him before Brooks folded his wings and shot to the ground with more alacrity than he'd ever shown before. I found plenty to be satisfied by in the conclusion, but there are a few open mysteries and a bit of a cliff-hanger at the end - lots of room for this to be a full trilogy! His draconic eyesight was better than Arthur’s too. He gazed up into what looked to Arthur like endless blue sky. “Yes, they’re ready.”

By the time Arthur made it to the ground and dismounted Brooks, Purple Lilac had landed and was being attended to by her concerned rider. Splotches of lichen were actively growing up between her scales. The little purple rolled over and over on the ground.

Instead, he turned to his own dragon who was buzzing around the landed Morrice and threatening to tear his card out of his 'Useless, rotten, green core'. Brix,” Arthur said, interrupting the dark little dragon who was glaring at Brooks and not so subtly flexing his claws. Brooks ignored him. “Do you think it’s time?” Arthur wished that Instructor Athena was there with him to help direct the dragon. But just as the rest of the class was doing formation drills… he was in training, too. As a Legendary rider, he was expected to train to be in charge.

There are classical coming of age elements as the protagonist escapes the worst part of the kingdom and starts to make good (without being saintly) - and then there are bits that I personally find just plain fun. I mean, "All the Skills" - there's a bit of cheekiness there! I've met some books that leaned heavily on 'there's a computer game underneath' but this one is more playful about it rather than relying on it.
