About this deal

This collection of lenses is currently what I use. I’m a huge fan of all three, Leica 8-18, Leica 12-60 and Olympus 40-150mm. All of them super sharp. The 40-150mm has the ability to be used with the Olympus 1.4X teleconverter and this combination is exceptional.

A lenses job is to provide as accurate and sharp a result as posssible. If a photographer wishes to degarde that for artistic purposes, that is for him to do, not the lens to decide. There is no need of upgrading the camera with DMW-SFU2 if upgrading with DMW-SFU2 was once done before. The lens is also designed for HD video recording, with silent autofocus and aperture mechanisms. The aperture itself is formed from seven rounded blades and features stepless adjustment, to eliminate sudden brightness jumps in movie footage. A bayonet-fitting petal-type lens hood is included in the box, and reverses snugly around the barrel for transport, while the filter thread accepts relatively petite 58mm accessories and doesn’t rotate on focusing. Otherwise, the already-existing constant apertures zooms are more than enough for most needs, particularly if you plan to complement them with a constant aperture telephoto zoom such as the Olympus M.Zuiko 40-150mm f/2.8 or Lumix 35-100mm f/2.8.flare occurs if you shoot directly into the sun but chromatic aberrations are extremely-well controlled John, thank you for taking the time to explain your testing methodology. As a chemical engineer, I understand the need for rigorous testing and to listen to what the test results are telling you. I still just can't get over the fact that the performance of this lens is so far from that of other Panasonic lenses. I also do agree with Lemmy's comments about the mismatch between the test results and the summary conclusion and 'recommended' rating at the end of the review. All things considered, I was quite surprised at how well the Lumix lens performed against the high-end Pana-Leica. Its only weak points appears to be sharpness at a close focusing distance at its widest angle and corner sharpness at 25mm, 40mm and 60mm. Otherwise, you would have a difficult time distinguishing the two without the aid of metadata. Bokeh G85, 1/800, f/2.8, ISO 200 – PanaLeica 12-60mm GX85, 1/640, f/5.6, ISO 200 The lens is very compact and balances well on the Lumix GX8. It is substantially manufactured in high-quality plastics, which also assists in keeping the weight down. This is definitely a lens that is a pleasure to use.

Incorporating an inner focus drive system and a stepping motor, the new LUMIX G VARIO 12-60mm / F3.5-5.6 ASPH. / POWER O.I.S. is capable of smooth, silent operation to work with the camera’s high-speed, high-precision contrast AF system for both photo and video recording. It is also compatible with the sensor drive at max. 240 fps to take maximum advantage of cameras with high-speed AF. Seven blades give the aperture a rounded shape that produces an attractively smooth effect in out-of-focus areas when shooting at larger aperture settings. Ever since the time of introduction, the LUMIX GH6 gained high attention and have been acclaimed after its release to the market not only from the conventional GH users but also from the new GH users worldwide. The GH6 is planned to “evolve” with firmware updates to further enhance its performance and usability for professional video creators, as previously announced. When it comes to the long end, 120mm on the Leica and 200mm on the Olympus, both give us more range than many are used to. Or maybe I should say, what I’m used to. I’m guessing the reason Panasonic created this lens was the extreme popularity of something similar from both Nikon and Canon. Nikon has proven that when done right, meaning very good optics, this lens range 24-120mm is a great all around travel choice. Olympus took this to another level and is the only manufacturer that I know of that’s attempted such a long range (200mm) in one lens. For landscape assuming you are shooting at the wide end and narrow apertures, both lens will perform "identically" if. you go by the numbers. CA and resolution across the center to the edges are very similar according to opticallimits.com. See below: In addition to the wide aperture, the POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) effectively compensates for blurring, making it easy to shoot even in dim lighting. The lens works with the Dual I.S. (Image Stabilizer)*1, 5-axis Dual I.S.*2, and 5-axis Dual I.S.2*3 system when mounted on an applicable Panasonic LUMIX DSLM (Digital Single Lens Mirrorless) camera.

Special Thank You to Natural Exposures Explorer Fred Kurtz for sharing a great collection of images he shot with the Olympus 12-100m zoom. Conclusion For example, when using the Olympus OM-D E-M1 with its in-body stabilisation deactivated, I was able to take sharp shots at shutter speeds as slow as: It is possible to start/stop recording on the external device with the BGH1 during HDMI/SDI output. Bokeh is a word used for the out-of-focus areas of a photograph, and is usually described in qualitative terms, such as smooth / creamy / harsh etc. In the LUMIX G VARIO 12-60mm F3.5-5.6 ASPH. POWER O.I.S. lens, Panasonic have employed an iris diaphragm with seven rounded blades, which has resulted in quite nice bokeh in our view. We do realise, however, that bokeh evaluation is subjective; so we've included several 100% crops for your perusal.
