Even so, it wasn’t until years later, when I first saw Blue Is the Warmest Color , that I actually found a queer story that reminded me of my own. Ashley Herring Blake came on the scene in 2022 with her Bright Fallslesbian romance series and I have a feeling we are going to continue to see even more from her! I haven’t yet had a chance to read Lex Crocher’s first novel in the series, Reputation, but I’ve been so captivated by her take on love and romance in this series from the summaries alone.

I like seeing how they learn to trust again and it sounds like Ash doesn’t have a choice when it comes to Rose. But the more Lizzie gets to know Cara, the more she likes her, and the bigger the potential disaster if any of her rapidly multiplying secrets get out. With a growing wealth of options out there, there's something for every taste, and every kind of relationship style. From the high school-style squealing of Dear Simon, to the spicier adult themes in Blue is the Warmest Color and Portrait of a Lady on Fire and the sweet, elder gay love showcased in Beginners, these favorites really span the gamut. And that matters, because representation helps young, questioning or isolated LGBTQ+ people feel seen and supported, especially if they can't get that from their own families or community.
