About this deal

Coming from a crop sensor camera with limited ability to get in close, I was surprised by the dreamy bokeh this 27mm could capture. The 27mm is the kit lens for bodies like the XE4, and the bokeh definitely doesn’t feel kit. Out-of-focus areas have nice, soft edges. Points of light are circular. Most bokeh balls have soft edges, though a few had a slight ring to them. I didn’t spot any soap bubble bokeh. Sharpness

This 27mm is a kit lens for the XE4 — but it doesn’t look like a kit lens. Bokeh is excellent for a crop sensor f2.8. Sharpness is good with just a bit of corner softness. The biggest imperfection is some occasional colored fringing. The 27mm is equivalent to 41mm, which is an in-between focal length that’s relatively versatile. Bokeh

What's in the box?

There are no better lenses to use on the Fuji system at any price. Forget slumming with LEICA or other off-brand lenses and adapters; you can't get anything sharper and any other lens won't autofocus or autoexpose or log data or be optimized by the camera's DSP, and no other lens will have a diaphragm that opens and closes automatically as needed for focus and shooting. The lens glass is tiny and it could use a much smaller filter than it does. 39mm is a much larger filter than needed, but as the standard size for LEICA, Fuji chose to emulate LEICA and use the same size filter. As I have told you, I have taken some first visible wave photographs and I am pleasantly satisfied despite the vignetting at wide apertures, although the autofocus is good and silent, and I am also doing IR tests at 720 and 590 nanometers and the results are Despite being almost winter, they promise great performance, especially at f8 and f5.6 apertures. My other surprise with this lens is that it behaves differently if you’re shooting at 720nm. or, 590nm. I had not found this situation in any other lens and, I assure you, I have tried many lenses from different manufacturers. That is why it makes it unique in IR. As I was getting ready to write this article, I was looking around my gear cabinet for this lens and I couldn’t locate it. When I did find it, the lens was attached to my wife’s X-T4! It turns out that the Fujinon XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR is her favorite lens. It seems that whenever I want to use it, the lens is attached to her camera. This is the only lens that we fight over.

Even under the most devious conditions I could devise, all I got was one dim purple blob as seen here. Sometimes that can sound like idleness because the character of specific lenses makes any photo interesting. Here … no-frills … this lens gives a level of surgical detail. The rendering is as you see it in front of your eyes; there is no distortion, no magic, apart from that which you will transmit through your framing, the choice of your subject, and the narration of your image. .etc. When Cosina copied others it was more difficult to copy others. Computers were not readily available and much of the drawings were made on paper. Also the markets were smaller. If you walk across a parking lot, you might see a dozen Mercedes C-class. You are not comparing those by their engine or accessories but only through recognition from the distance. And this is the same here. They offer a Fuji-lookalike. It is a copy on the outside!! This is enough for me not to support any company who is unable to come up with an own design.

Specifications

Anyone familiar with Fujifilm’s nomenclature will notice the letters R and WR in the name of the 2021 version, indicating it now has an aperture ring and weather-sealing. Despite its compact size, measuring 62x23mm and weighing 84g, Fujifilm’s managed to squeeze-in both a manual focusing ring and a new aperture ring, although the former has understandably narrowed compared to the 2013 model. A dome-shaped lens hood is also included.
