This show can be considered somewhat of a cross between the work of Go Nagai and Ken Ishikawa's Getter Robo and Star Wars. As in Getter Robo, the show's protagonists ride three vehicles that combine into a giant robot. Big Dai X, the robot in X-Bomber, is more similar to the kind seen in the popular Super Sentai series than a regular Nagai robot.
This particular incarnation was in the same style as the other giant robo: "Jumbo" toys of the time, such as the Super Machinder line. Anyway, once the Dai-X Junction manoeuvre is complete the Dai-X robot is on-line in its flight mode. Powered by four engines, two at the base of each foot, Dai-X is capable of combat manoeuvres in space and in atmosphere and can achieve escape velocity. However, it is probably not capable of reaching hyperspeed and would need to be ferried by X-Bomber over long distances. This item is planned to be on sale from October 8 to October 16, 2022 at the X-BOMBER Exhibition 2022 and online at the GOODSMILE ONLINE SHOP from October 11, 2022. Not hugely successful in its native Japan, the show was very popular in the UK. The combination of being superficially similar to the much loved Thunderbirds, and the fact that the show didn't shy away from many tropes that were mostly unknown in kids programming in Britain at the time made it a Gateway Series for British kids of a certain age. It even inspired the album Star Fleet Project, where Brian May and Van Halen performed together.The show was unusual in the way that it had a continuing story arc rather than just stand alone episodes.
