In 1575 the Bols family opened their distillery t Lootsje ( the little shed) in Amsterdam. The distillery was located outside the city walls on the post road to Haarlem, situated next to a stream. By 1612 the city's walls had expanded to encompass the distillery, and the stream was dug out into a canal called the Rozengracht because of rose nurseries in the area. Around the same time, a new stone building was constructed to house the distillery. The first official mention is in 1640 in Amsterdam town papers, where Pieter Jacobszoon Bols is documented as operator of t Lootsje on the Rozengracht.

Bols Corenwijn has been aged for two years in a Limousin oak barrels and is bottled at 38% ABV. Tasting Notes Parfait Amour, a purple colored Rose petal and orange liqueur, with a hint of vanilla. The Bols family expanded the distillery into several houses on the Rozengracht, and it was here that the man that the modern Lucas Bols Company is named after was born in 1652. Lucas Bols took over the management of his family’s business during the Dutch Golden Age. Today, drinkers can enjoy the diversity of gin.Unlike vodka, each bottle of gin is truly unique. The majority feature some degree of the pine flavor that comes from juniper, which is gin's signature ingredient, yet no two bottles have the same combination of botanicals. After two short-lasting joint ventures with first Heineken and later Wessanen – and then a buyout by CVC Capital Partners – Bols was taken over in 2000 by Rémy Cointreau.

Several contributions to the Quarterly Magazine of the Dutch bottle collectors club "De Oude Flesch" by Lodewijk van Sint Maartensdijk. 1979–1995. The word itself is a bit of a cognate. it translates to “corn wine,” and refers to the high amount of malt wine present in this product (>51%). This mean it’s less than 100% Maltwine products like Old Duff’s and more than Jonge (5-15% maltwine) and Oude (min. 15%) styles of genever. Aviation's choice of a rye base gives this gin a creamier mouthfeel than most gins. It is a gin that you can enjoy chilled on its own, which is great news for super dry martini fans. Already a leading producer of alcoholic beverages in its home country, Bols became the dominant producer of genever with its 1986 acquisition of Rotterdam based Henkes [ nl]. In addition, this allowed Bols to vertically integrate itself, as Henkes had a network of retail liquor stores in the Netherlands. In 1988, Bols acquired Strothmann Brennereien GmbH & Co AG., instantly giving it the largest market share in the Korn Schnapps market, along with distribution channels and production facilities in Germany.

4. Deerhammer Dutch Style Gin

If you’re new to Corenwijn or genever in general— the two year aged Bols Corenwijn is a great point of introduction. I recommend not trying to make a Gin and Tonic with a genever. While some people do really enjoy it, genever differs quite a bit from gin. Just know that it’s not going to be the same thing. Overall, Bols Genever Maraschino, a clear Marasca cherry flavored liqueur Bols makes with Kirsch and a selection of herbs In either case, a second process will follow where juniper and other herbs are steeped in the base spirit before being distilled. While gin can sometimes be made using vapour infusion, most brands will undertake the same process.
