If they helped either Nightcrawler twice or both him and the Green Goblin once, Manhattan is saved and the citizens are freed from the symbiotes' control, praising Spider-Man, who thinks of taking a shower after having gone to the sewers twice in a day. a b Reiner, Andrew (December 2008). " Spider-Man: Web of Shadows (PS3, X360)". Game Informer. No.188. Archived from the original on November 13, 2008 . Retrieved April 26, 2014. Web of Shadows has to be the darkest and most morose Spider-Man game ever created. From the opening cinematic with Spider-Man walking through an apocalyptic New York set to Beethoven's "Moonlight" Sonata it's clear that Web of Shadows will be a different experience. The menus are simple and easy to navigate on all platforms. You can choose to start a new game, load an existing save, or watch the credits. It's as straightforward as a menu could ever be. The layout looks different on all the versions, but the available options are essentially identical. The PS3 requires a 2GB install which takes about 5 minutes. There isn't any major difference in loading times between the PS3 and 360.The PC version is laid out identically to the console versions of the game. You'll have to use buttons to navigate menus, which is a minor frustration. The game loads faster on the PC, though, which more than makes up for it. That, in conjunction with the extra sharp graphics during cutscenes make the PC the winner in this category. The PS2's presentation is the most spartan of the bunch. It's arguably the best-written of all the games, but the cutscenes are static and bland. The DS has some really neat story sequences using comic book-style panels that do a great job of capturing the Spider-Man spirit.

Spider-Man: Web of Shadows won't blow you away with its visuals on any platform. Unsurprisingly, the PS3 and 360 are the best-looking versions of the game. Character models are nicely detailed and Spider-Man animates fantastically, with a huge array of different moves during combat and web-slinging. The environments are prone to many of the familiar visual bugaboos that have plagued other open world games. There is a heavy amount of pop-in, and many textures look a little blurry up close. The PS3 versions runs a little less smoothly than the 360 version. Neither game has a stable framerate, but the PS3 version of the game was more prone to slowdown in my experience. It also looked a little more aliased and jaggy. This probably isn't anything you're average consumer would notice, but experienced gamers will appreciate the relative smoothness of the 360 version. Red/Hero ending - The following week, Spider-Man swings away with Mary Jane after describing his heroic actions. If they helped the Green Goblin twice, Spider-Man realizes that, with the symbiote leader gone, he is now in charge of the symbiotes. The infected citizens worship Spider-Man as their new leader while he swings through a New York City covered in symbiotes, reflecting upon how great power is simply a lot of power and that it is far better than sharing the responsibility. a b Harris, Craig (October 22, 2008). " Spider-Man: Web of Shadows Review (NDS)". IGN. Archived from the original on February 5, 2013 . Retrieved April 26, 2014. Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, along with most other games published by Activision that had used the Marvel license, was de-listed and removed from all digital storefronts on January 1, 2014. [3] [4] It was the only Spider-Man game developed by Shaba Games and was assisted by Treyarch (their last time on a Spider-Man game), as the license was then passed to Beenox, who went on to develop several Spider-Man games of their own, beginning with Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions in 2010. Although the player is unable to free-roam after the storyline's completion, this can be achieved through a secret method, which has the player watch the credits twice. Afterwards, when they select to continue the game, the player will start a new game, but will retain all their previous upgrades; this essentially acts as a New Game Plus mode. Miller, Greg (October 30, 2008). " Spider-Man: Web of Shadows Review (PC)". IGN. Archived from the original on January 17, 2014 . Retrieved April 26, 2014. a b Miller, Greg (October 22, 2008). " Spider-Man: Web of Shadows Review (Xbox 360)". IGN. Archived from the original on August 15, 2013 . Retrieved April 26, 2014.It's often the case that Xbox 360 versions of cross-platform games enjoy a clear technical advantage over the PlayStation 3 version, but it's not so often these days that the weaknesses in the PS3 code impact the gameplay experience to the point where it affects the purchasing decision. The odd extra 'jaggie' or dropped frame won't, and shouldn't, have that much impact on whether the game is worth the cash or not. Futter, Mike (January 1, 2014). "[Update] Deadpool And Other Marvel Games Disappear From Steam, Xbox Live, And PSN". Game Informer. Archived from the original on July 21, 2021 . Retrieved January 3, 2014. Spider-Man: Web of Shadows is a 2008 action-adventure video game based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man. The game was released in October 2008 across multiple platforms, and encompasses three drastically different versions: one released for Microsoft Windows, the PlayStation 3, Wii, and Xbox 360, which features an open world and non-linear gameplay; one for the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable (titled Spider-Man: Web of Shadows – Amazing Allies Edition), which is a 2.5D side-scrolling beat 'em up; and one for the Nintendo DS, a Metroidvania-style beat 'em up. All three versions have several common elements, such as moral choices that alter the narrative, the ability to summon allies during fights, and a similar plot, despite different characters being featured. Web of Shadows' storyline is significantly darker than most previous Spider-Man games, as it revolves around a symbiote invasion threatening Manhattan, which Spider-Man must stop with the help of several unlikely allies.

The current generation of Spidey games have all been centred - quite rightly - on replicating the web-swinger's phenomenal agility and of course the freedom and exhilaration of swinging across the Manhattan skyline. While game content is of course like-for-like, the core attraction of the game takes a bit of a beating on PS3, and in that respect I'd give it a miss, while the 360 game is at least worth a rental despite the Eurogamer 5/10 rating and what must surely be the worst Peter Parker voice-acting ever heard in the world ever.
