About this deal

Sam was a flawed but believable character. She loves her job and is really good at it but her salary slips through her fingers as soon as it's earned! She faces the embarrassment of her credit cards being declined and is often bailed out by her friends and family. She is behind on her rent and contribution to the bills and flatmate Mara is understandably starting to lose patience! She is a kind person though and I couldn't understand why she was so keen to get together again with the sleazy but very handsome Charlie. In her pursuit of him, she gets herself in all kinds of embarrassing situations and she isn't listening to her friends advice. At times I wanted to shake her and at times I wanted to take her aside and say 'now look....'. Even she begins to wonder who she is and what she really wants deep down.

When Davis Murphy’s father died eight years ago, he became owner of Murphy Title by default. As the business becomes successful, Davis looks forward to pursuing his lifelong dream of becoming a cowboy like his grandfather, and owning a ranch. When he discovers that his mother is holding off getting married until she is sure he has settled down, he plots to fool her by introducing a pretend fiancée for one night. After that, his mother would accept her boyfriend’s marriage proposal and leave for Tokyo, and that would be that. While Vivien found this strange at first (because who actually writes on their dating profile that they’re a millionaire and then complains about people being attracted to them for their money?), she was eventually swayed. Vivien herself describes what it was like to fall deeper and deeper into Charlie’s clutches, until she was totally alone. Davis could choose any woman he desired. Why her? I laughed at the references where Charlie was his mother's typie and Davis was proposing to her brothers. It seemed so true.Johnson: Sometimes. But what we would generally do is figure out the venue of a little world that we wanted to explore. Sometimes we would have to choose something obvious because it makes sense. But I was always looking for what were interesting side ways that we can get Charlie involved in this world. Typically, that’s secondary. Typically, we’d come up with the world, and we come up with kind of the story, then we figure out, “OK, how does it make sense for Charlie to be involved with it?” It’s so funny the ways in which we view male and female characters. We’re making great strides, but we would never expect Humphrey Bogart when he’s playing a Philip Marlowe–style character to look like he’s on the verge of a nervous breakdown. We’re still catching up to the idea that a woman could have an inner thought life that is extreme without showing it on the outside. Something that was key to my set of goals as a teenager who was falling in love with like cinema of the ’70s was to find a way to play female characters that felt more like Martin Sheen in Apocalypse Now. You know, the opening scene when he’s looking up at the fan, and I don’t know what he’s thinking until he stands up and is covered in blood and The Doors are playing, and I’m like, “Oh, shit, I guess that’s what he was thinking.” I always made it a personal goal to get to be like the boys.

If you do find yourself in this situation, you don’t have to be embarrassed. There are people such as myself and my colleagues that you can talk to, and there’s no shame in it.” Robson Says. At the top of the podcast, Julia tells us that her job as a modern-day private investigator mainly involves using open-source intelligence and information available online to try to solve cases. It’s helped her bust Nigerian crime gangs and find missing persons. But most of her work comes from people who have fallen for online catfishing, conning people out of both time and money. Whitney Friedlander for Rotten Tomatoes: The actor who plays the new villain has a similar name to the one who played the old one. Was Rhea Perlman cast because her name sounds like Ron Perlman’s?Aside from a couple episodes, there’s really no ambiguity as to whether the victim, or almost victim, deserves to die. Usually, they’re pretty decent people and the answer is no. Was that a conscious choice? Will that be changing with the second season? It’s Vivien’s story Robson focuses on in the first three episodes of the series. (At least four more instalments are on the way.) Vivien is single after a 30-year marriage, an empty nester, looking for a new relationship. Robson, who’s been in the P.I game for just shy of 15 years, and was previously part of the New Zealand Police Force, no doubt knows a swindler when she sees one, but it was when she met one of Gill’s earlier victims, Vivien, that she knew this case would be different. Johnson: We really try and shake it up with each one. Just in a vacuum, if you looked at the Ellen Barkin– Tim Meadows theater episode [“Exit Stage Death”], and the “Escape from Shit Mountain” episode, the notion that those both exist in the same series seems ridiculous. What I hope is that the episodic nature of it, and the fact that one of the other tools in our belt for surprising and thrilling the audience every week, is that within the confines of this structure, tone is another thing that we can take wild swings in different directions. It happens more often than people realise,” she said. “People like myself, we know it’s happening. And it’s not the first time we’ve heard a story like that.

When you combine two very strong personalities, who each think they have a life plan, add in some family dynamics, (aren't they all dysfunctional?) and try to plan a last minute wedding, you can not help but result in a humorous read. I did enjoy this book quite a bit. I'm not a huge adult books reader but do like adult authors such as Paige Toon and Lucy Dillon so if you like those sort of reads I'm sure you'll like this too In fact, Charlie's crimes have taken him from New Zealand to Australia to the south of France where he took deposits for the sale of items that didn't exist.Davis, an accomplished businessman, frequents the library to research cowboys and ranching. He's ready to allow someone else to manage the family business so that he can pursue his dream of becoming a cowboy. Also, Davis would love for his widowed mother to accept the marriage proposal from her long-time companion who will be leaving the country soon. He knows his mother will never agree to the proposal and leave the country until she sees that Davis is settled. Davis devises a plan to find a temporary fiance' to show his mother that he is settled so that she can pursue her happiness. When Davis spots Charlie in the red dress, he knows she will be perfect for his scheme. Charlie's first reaction is to run, but she's promised herself to step out of her plain-jane routine. When Charlie accepts, Davis's plan is set. But now Charlie's sweet ways are challenging his bachelor heart. Let me just say … Oh the tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive … (thanks, Sir Walter Scott)

Before they could get away, Rotten Tomatoes talked to Johnson and Lyonne about this season and plans for the next. We hope they weren’t lying. Lyonne: I always think it’s useful to have a personal life experience to draw on, because I would say, on a personal basis, I’ve been in quite a few high-stakes situations. It’s almost like what you’re trying to do is not show the world that you’re in a state, rather than telegraph to every gas station you go to like, “Hey, man, I’m in a panic.” Charlie thinks she needs to take some small risks to liven up her boring life. Her life plan is about predictability without risk. Davis has taken the responsible road and wants to experience adventure and adrenaline while pursuing his dream. All he has left to do is convince his mother to marry the man of her dreams. To that end, he has to convince her she is not deserting him. Charlotte "Charlie" Nelson has chosen a career as a librarian to remove her as far as possible from the cowboy lifestyle of her brothers and her childhood. She is not interested in anything that has to do with that, and is adamant about that. Davis Murphy is an eligible bachelor and wanna be cowboy with no marriage plans and no girlfriend in sight. However, his mother won't marry her long time beau unless she knows that Davis is in a happy and stable relationship. After the Charlie investigation is over, Robson will return to her work as a private investigator, often following partners who may be cheating. Easy said than done when it comes to matters of the heart, but a listen to the Chasing Charlie podcast will be enough for you to be extra cautious with your heart and your money, of that Robson is sure. Johnson: That’s a function of the Clea and Natasha just being really good friends, and it’s the same thing with [her friend] Chloe Sevigny being in the fourth episode, and, with me, Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the [ninth] episode and Adrien Brody in the pilot. You, kind of, call up your friends. Especially in the first season where you’re nervous and you’re trying to figure out what this thing is; it really helps to have people that you trust and love around you that you can work with. Sam couldn't see that Charlie is such a jerk. So, what it made me think about Sam? Probably that she was just so in love that she couldn't see what Charlie is really like, or maybe just stupid. Is this a classic romance novel? Yes!! In the best ways possible - a couple you can root for and feel that euphoric stirring in your own heart; an issue of love you can definitely empathize with; and enough tension to make you forget that this book SHOULD have a happy ending.
