About this deal

Another feature of the Bosch Rotak 34R is its compact storage abilities – which it certainly delivers on. By unlatching the grass box and folding away the handles, it compressed down to a mere 74 cm long, 35 cm wide and 52 cm high. Bosch has been a trusted name in the home appliance and power tool industry for years, and with good reason. They manufacture and sell reliable and efficient products that will last you and your household for a long time. If you have a small to medium sized yard, then you will get a tremendous amount of use out of an electric lawnmower. Electric lawnmowers decrease in performance as their battery charge decreases, so this means that they are best used to cut a small amount of grass in a fast amount of time. Terrain Type

This model has been discontinued by the manufacturer, but there is a newer version now available, which we reviewed here: Bosch Rotak 34 R. Rear Roller – The design also features a rear roller which is a nice feature at this price, especially if you are looking for football pitch stripes on your lawn. Lightweight and Easy – If you’re not capable of fighting to push a heavy mower or simply don’t want to, you’ll like the Bosch Rotak 34R as it’s just over 10 kg and rolls along nice and easily. This also makes transporting the mower to and from the shed an easy task rather than an ordeal. A lot of consumers also point out that the weight distribution on this mower is a lot more centralised than on its predecessor too.The Bosch Rotak 34R has several features that make it impressive. These include an integrated roller, side combs to enable close edge trimming, 5 adjustable cutting heights (from 20 – 70 mm), a 40-litre grass box, and a 34 cm cutting diameter. Installing the handles was much easier. Usually, it’s better to have two people help with fitting lawnmower handles, but this wasn’t necessary with the Bosch Rotak 34R. Before screwing them in, the poles slotted into the sides, which made fixing and tightening the bolts easy to do alone. Installing the lawnmower involved three main steps; fitting the wheels, assembling the grass box and securing the handlebars.

This Bosch Rotak 34 mower does not have the ability to mulch grass clippings like many other models at a similar price point do. The Bosch Rotak 34 is powered with a 1300 watt motor and utilises a sharp, durable metal blade for reliable cutting every time. The blade itself is extremely easy to sharpen as well. This mower boasts five different cutting heights from 20 mm to 70 mm so that you can have full control over how your lawn looks after you mow it. The cutting height can be adjusted using a lever mounted on the front of the body of the lawn mower. It is very smooth and easy to operate. In addition to these great features, it also has an integrated rear roller to give your lawn a professional, striped finish. Since the grass box is made of plastic with a matt effect, it didn’t look like it would scratch easily. Plus, as it was a hard, plastic box (as opposed to a mesh design), it was easier to brush clean after use. Grass Collection– In terms of grass collection, this one’s a belter! All of the clippings are collected and compacted really well, you don’t get lines of clippings sprayed everywhere that you have to clean up. Relatively Easy Assembly – It’s not as easy as pulling it out of the box and you’re ready to go; there is a little bit of work required on your part. But it shouldn’t be too difficult for you either, especially if you’ve assembled a few garden tools in the past. You’ll need to connect the handle and put together the grass basket. The latter task is the one that most people seems to struggle with, as the basket does feel a bit flimsy (on the plus side that does mean the mower overall is lighter) and might take you a few attempts to clip together.

Specifications

The Bosch Rotak 34R lawn mower is one of the best electric lawnmowers on the market today in the UK. It offers stupendous value for money and is so easy to operate. This particular model is slightly larger than the Bosch Rotak 32R as it has a 34 cm cutting width instead of a 32 cm one. Features: The height adjustment feature on the Bosch Rotak 34R is very easy to use and can be operated with just one hand. The grass box does not have an indicator level like many other collection boxes on comparable lawn mowers do. Storage Less Efficient than it Should Be – The handles on the Bosch Rotak 34 R are supposed to fold down to reduce the size of the storage footprint of this mower, which in theory is a handy feature. Especially if you only have a small shed or garage that you keep your garden tools in. However, a lot of consumers complain about the ease of doing this, mainly due to the lower grade screws that are used to fasten the handle in place. As a result quite a few people just end up leaving the handles extended. Also, the 10 metre cable cannot be disconnected from the main body of the unit, and there’s no cable storage feature on the mower. So storage is definitely something Bosch could improve on with the Rotak 34 R. True to the Bosch brand, the Rotak 34R had the trademark green on its base, with splashes of red on some of the caps and levers.

Really Cuts – This is why you’re really here, reading this Bosch Rotak 34R Review; you want to know whether it really cuts, right? Well you’ll be glad to learn that most consumers are more than happy with the performance of this mower. It’s a mower that makes grass cutting easy and accessible for anyone given its attributes (lightweight, easy to carry etc), and it’s really more than capable of dealing with regular lawn maintenance, and is a worthy ally for those occasions when you miss a few weeks and the grass grows a little longer than the norm. As long as you don’t push it and expect it to deal with an overgrown mess, you should be fine. Many consumers mention good result on wet grass too. The Bosch Rotak 34R gave an all-around impressive performance. Even when testing it on some damp patches of grass, it breezed through without much effort. Almost every area had a clean and even cut. The only thing missing was a little clip on the wire near the plug to secure it and prevent it from getting trodden on.

Maneuverability – There’s no self propel feature on this model so you will have to push it up and down your lawn, but to be totally honest this isn’t a big deal at all because at 11kg it’s not like you will be pushing a car or something. This thing is light. The low weight combined with the compact design means this model is nice and maneuverable. The inset front wheels are also a real bonus when going around tight corners. It’s easy to push up slopes too. Tops marks for Bosch on maneuverability!

Power Cable – You get a built in power cable with the Bosch Rotak 34 which is 12 metres in length. This should definitely be adequate for a small-medium sized lawn.If you do require more cable you can either buy an extension cable or look at one of the larger models in the Rotak range which offer a longer cable and also a larger cutting width. Easy to Fire Up – You probably still have nightmares about that second hand petrol mower you bought off your grandad’s neighbour a few years ago. About the fact that you practically dislocated your shoulder every time your wife said “I think it’s about time you cut the grass” because it was just so hard to start. Well you’ll think you’re in heaven when you take this one out for a spin on the green stuff. It’s so, so simple. You just push in the red button and pull the trigger towards you and you’re done. Now we’re going to discuss the potential deal breakers; the most common cons cited when it comes to this mower. You’ll need to figure out whether you can learn to live with them. First things first, we’re going to start off by pointing out the things that consumers feel the Bosch Rotak 34 electric mower does well. The hardened, ground steel blade has a cut width of 34 cm, and there are 6 cut height settings to choose from, ranging between 10 and 70 mm. The large 40 L grass box should enable you to cut the grass in one go without stopping to empty.Customers rave that this lawn mower is extremely ease to manoeuvre. The front wheels allow you to get into awkward corners for an even, perfect cut every time you use it. Electric lawn mowers are a great alternative to self propelled petrol powered ones, especially if you have a small to medium sized lawn. They are also easier to operate than your average rotary lawnmower. When fixing the bolts, the manual recommends wearing gloves as the mechanisms can be oily. Gloves aren’t provided in the kit, so I didn’t use any. I noticed the oily residue while I was screwing things in, but it was easy to avoid.
