Try to cover less space with each layer (e.g. start from the middle of the wall with The Fang and only cover the top quarter of the wall with Russ Grey. There’s multiple ways to apply pigment powder, but I recommend using water as your medium because it’s the easiest to fix if you don’t like the end result: A space hulk is an immense amalgamation of stellar debris, starships, and other detritus that have fused together after having been collected together in the warp over the course of millennia. These vessels are at a scale that’s difficult to fathom, potentially hundreds of miles long and consisting of vessels that can be older than the Imperium itself. When the vagaries of the warp unleash them into realspace, they often are infested with all manner of horrors and monstrosities that have been corrupted from exposure to the raw energies of the warp. Others may be filled with Orks hell bent on turning the hulk into the vehicle for their next great WAAAGH!, or Genestealers patiently waiting centuries for the opportunity to descend upon an unsuspecting world and form a psychic beacon to draw the Great Devourer. Assembling / Priming the terrain:

The Boarding Actions or Killteam terrain consists of a LOT of pieces of terrain. If you try to print all that in resin, you are going to feel it in your bags. This terrain set prints in about 70h in my BambuLab P1P, and eats up 1.4kg of PLA (roughly 23€ for me). The Furnace contains a specific region in the board called The Furnace and another region called the Furnace Control Zone. Models inside the control zone can perform an action to turn on the burners in the furnace, which naturally has an unpleasant outcome for anyone inside the furnace (roll a D6 for every model inside and inflict a mortal wound on a 4+). Inside the furnace are a pair of particularly valuable markers which would explain why someone would want to go in there. Players score up to 15 points per turn for controlling one, two or more objectives and an additional five points if they control one or more objectives in the Furnace. They also score an extra 10 points if they control one or more objectives in the Furnace at the end of the game.

I am thrilled to bring you this terrain set, designed to be compatible with the new Boarding Actions game mode for Warhammer 40k, but also with other game systems such as Killteam, Warcry, or dungeon based RPGs such as DnD or Rogue trader. Instead, use Water Mixable / Water Soluble oil paints, these are oil paints that have been modified to work with water. Since we’re not creating works of art on a canvas, any perceived difference is negligible (i.e. it does not matter when you’re drowning your terrain in a wash). The water mixable oil paint dries faster than its traditional variant, often in a few hours (compared to waiting overnight for a traditional wash).

Once you’ve created some texture (and protected it with a coat of varnish), you can wash the whole thing with a generous oil wash of Burnt Umber to make it dirty. People are often intimidated by the concept of an oil wash due to the use of thinners, mineral spirits and a bunch of other toxic stuff, but you don’t need any of that for this oil wash.
