About this deal

I met some fascinating characters during my time as a young actress, on the London stage and in film and television. Actors in particular, tend to be a tortured bunch, with the ‘public’ face often very different to the reality of the human being behind it. Unless of course, they start to believe their own myth and the fantasy world they inhabit, as Cheska does. When I met my husband Stephen some years after I wrote the book, I found out that he had known someone very much like Cheska… The Angel Tree by Lucinda Riley is a compelling mystery of family secrets and forgotten pasts from the author of The Seven Sisters.

Lucinda was born in Lisburn, County Down, and spent her first few years in the nearby village of Drumbeg. Her mother, Jane (nee Cottham), and great-aunt had been professional actors, her grandmother was an opera singer and her great-uncle was chief lighting designer at the Royal Opera House. Did your feelings towards the characters stay the same throughout the novel, or did your loyalties shift? Which characters did you find the most intriguing?Like all Lucinda Riley stories, there is love and tragedy. The Angel Tree has more than its share of tragic situations that almost seem comedic at times. This reviewer didn't embrace the characters of Greta or Cheska with much warmth; they are rather mechanical in their responses and even though Cheska has the excuse of mental illness, Greta does not. Ava is a little too goody-goody to actually have a real personality but as this is a Riley saga and one cannot expect fully blown three-dimensional characters, the reader should not expect much more. For those who like a good soap opera, you will enjoy "The Angel Tree" despite its pathetic characters and its way out scenarios. It's so sad when I try to go outside my comfort zone, only to have my dislike for the genre reinforced instead.

At the heart of ‘ The Angel Tree’ are different kinds of mother-daughter relationships. Do you feel the love between a mother and a daughter is different to any other kind of love? The poignant discovery strikes a chord in Greta's mind and soon ignites a quest to rediscover her lost memories. She begins to piece together the fragments of not only her own story, but that of her daughter, Cheska, who was the tragic victim of circumstances beyond her control. And, most definitely, not the angel she appeared to be . . . Novela larguita son casi 600 páginas, pero para nada casan, detalle a detalle consigue que quieras saber más de todo lo que te describe. Her acting career was interrupted by a long bout of mononucleosis. This caused her to turn to writing, and her first novel Lovers and Players was published in 1992. [3]Arriving in a clearing, she saw a majestic fir tree standing in the centre of it, the rich green of its bushy, snow-laden branches a contrast to the tall, bare beech trees that made up the rest of the wood. Walking towards it, she noticed there was a gravestone beneath it, the inscription covered by snow. Surmising that it was almost certainly the grave of a family pet - perhaps one she had known - Greta reached down and scraped away the hard, icy flakes with her gloved hand. When Lucinda was five, her father was transferred to Courtaulds in Derby, so the family left Northern Ireland to live in Leicester. Six years later, she appeared on stage as one of the Von Trapp children in a production of The Sound of Music (1976), staged by the city’s rotary club at the De Montfort Hall. Greta's daughter, Cheska becomes a child star along the lines of Shirley Temple; but her increased exposure to the world of make-believe creates a psyche that needs constant love and attention and sadly threatens to explode when she is pushed into a harsher reality. When she meets Bobby Cross, an Elvis Presley type with a terrible reputation, Cheska's innocence is severely compromised and mother Greta is left to pull unraveled strings together. The Seven Sisters is a story about humanity: love, family, joy, loss, fear and pain. And above all, the one gift that is more important than any other, and has kept us humans alive throughout unbearable suffering: HOPE. THE AUTHOR: Lucinda Riley is an Irish author of popular historical fiction and a former actress. She spent the first few years of her life in the village of Drumbeg near Belfast before moving to England. At age 14 she moved to London to a specialist drama and ballet school. She wrote her first book aged twenty four. Lucinda died in June 2021.

In 2019, Riley revealed to Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang that she had oesophageal cancer. [6] She continued to work, producing five novels during the four years of her illness, but was unable to complete the planned final eighth novel in her Seven Sisters series before her death on 11 June 2021. [7] [1] [2] After her death, her son, Harry Whittaker, completed the final book, Atlas: The Story of Pa Salt, which was posthumously released in May 2023. [8] Ciara McDonnell (11 June 2021). "Lucinda Riley, author of the Seven Sisters series and ex West Cork resident, dies". Irish Examiner. The Angel Tree encompasses both love and tragedy. At the heart of the story is Marchmont, the family home lived in by several generations, and which ties all the characters and story threads together. Verdad que el nombre de David suena a buena persona? A mí siempre me lo pareció, a lo mejor es porque recuerda a David el Gnomo, si tenéis ocasión mirar el significado del nombre os sorprenderá. And I wanted to celebrate the achievements of women, especially in the past, where so often, their contribution to making our world the place it is today has been overshadowed by the more frequently documented achievements of men.

Maravillosa Lucinda.Lucinda Riley is one of my favorite authors. I love her Seven Sisters series especially. They are truly brilliant.
