I won’t be using it to cook large meals for lots of guests, but for a family of three, and when cooking normal sized cakes and tarts etc, it seems really ideal. Surprisingly, at 28cm high, the air fryer will easily sit on a kitchen countertop, under the wall cabinets. Note, however, that it does need to be on a stable surface, leaving a minimum distance of 10cm on both sides of the appliances and 15cm above; it can become quite hot in use. A point of consideration, if you’re short on countertop space or have low-hung kitchen cabinets. Fantastic little oven. I’m isolating and can do everything, from toast to bake, roast and fry the best chops ever. For one person this cannot be beaten.

A Sage appliance is considered DOA if it shows symptoms of an equipment failure, preventing basic operability, when you first use it after opening the box. If you believe that your product is DOA, please call Sage within 30 calendar days of the invoice date. Sage will determine whether the product is DOA and will arrange for the DOA product's return and ship you a replacement product at Sage's expense. Sage have made cooking in the Smart Oven Pro more efficient and even with Element IQ technology, which uses smart algorithms to move power around the oven to where it’s most needed. Each element adjusts itself automatically for the setting you choose, delivering the right temperature at the right time to ensure perfect results. With 10 preset functions, the Smart Oven Air Fryer is incredibly simple to use. Just push the appropriate button and the Smart Oven will adjust the settings accordingly: I was looking for a replacement for our two Actifrys that were end of life, of which I had to keep sourcing replacement parts for (pan with holes, snapping paddle etc.). I’m happy with this as maintenance will be much lower since the parts are more robust and there is no internal plastic that wears over time. You can also shave off around a quarter of the cooking time when air frying compared to the Actifry since it cooks faster, which is a bonus.

The air fryer takes five minutes to preheat, before it starts cooking, so you’ll need to factor in this time if you’re on a tight schedule and cooking lots of different foods. Alongside pre-sets for certain food groups such as pizza, crumpet and toast, the Smart Oven Air Fryer offers a range of temperature and time options. This allows you to tweak the timings and temperatures as you see fit, both before and during a cooking cycle. So, for example, if something comes out undercooked, you can easily use the control dial to experiment with various cooking times and temperatures until you get it right. It’s also handy to have an airfryer option, and so far potato waffles, fish fingers, bacon and breaded scampi have come out much better than when baked in the range oven. There’s just a bit of guesswork here as none of these products list cooking guidelines for airfryers so you need to experiment.

Much like a standard oven, the air fryer won’t turn off if you open its door half-way through a cooking cycle. You’ll need to take care when handling the trays and shaking the contents of the basket mid-way through cooking, too. When it comes to noise, the Smart Oven Air Fryer is fairly quiet in operation – humming away at an average 57dB in use, as measured by our Decibel Meter App.
