The Red Ledge Vinyl Poncho is that one your parents probably have in a disaster kit somewhere. It’s not fancy, it’s made of PVC (a material that’s not known for anything positive in clothing), and it has no bells and whistles. But it has a hood and covers your body, thereby protecting you from rain. It’s very cheap, very basic, and we don’t actually recommend disposing of it but keeping it around for emergencies. The Patrol poncho is made from Snugpaks exclusive Paratex Dry material which is 100% waterproof and has a hydrostatic head in excess of 5000mm. Paratex Dry has a hydrophilic polyurethane coating and is only ever used with sealed seam systems to give you the best rain cover from your poncho. There are several factors worth considering before purchasing a rain poncho. Most ponchos are sold as one-size-fits-all, but that doesn’t mean they are all created equal. The most basic of ponchos won’t have these, and you may not know what you’re missing. However, hood and waist drawstrings and side buttons are a great way to keep control of all the poncho in inclement weather, particularly when it’s windy outside. On the inside, there is a fine knit layer that is bonded to the Polyurethane and making it extra soft and adding to its durability.
