About this deal

Overall, research does support the Oral B technology as being better at removing plaque than the Sonicare technology. There are individual studies in favour of each respective company. Both are better than using a manual toothbrush. You will see that the more feature-rich, and typically more expensive models are shown on the right, compared to the more cost effective models on the left. One such independent study was completed by Cochrane in 2020 and they report that there is some evidence that oscillating technology used by Oral-B is more effective. Both brushes offer Bluetooth connectivity, which means that they connect to an Android or iOS smartphone via an app. Sonicare put a clause in their warranty that the battery is only supported for twelve months (one year) whereas no such clause exists for Oral-B models.

To be called a sonic toothbrush this vibration must be at a speed that causes and audible hum. This is up to about 20,000 Hz (or vibrations per second). Vibrations faster than this are “ultrasonic” and can not be heard by the human ear. ThePro 600 offers 8,800 oscillations and 20,0000 pulsations whilst the 2000 offers 9,900oscillations and 45,000 pulsations. If you need more detail on any of the brushes, read on or leave a comment. Brush vs brush comparison posts As you move up the Oral-B range, the brushes become more expensive, but they do come with additional features and accessories. We regard these as “nice-to-have” rather than essential. Many brushes in the Sonicare range offer up to 31,000 brush strokes/62,000 movements per minute. The exact number of movements depends on the cleaning mode and intensity selected. Not all brushes have different cleaning modes or intensity choices. Both are better than using manual toothbrushes. Pitchika et al published the results of an 11 year study in 2019. They proved that powered toothbrushes were effective in reducing the probing depth for people with gum disease. This is the distance between the top of the gum and the tooth – a smaller gap indicates better gum health. They also found that people using electric toothbrushes retained more teeth. They do also offer an automatic power off feature which in my opinion is the best feature and most applicable of all additions over the basic cleaning mode.

The reality is, you could use any mode on the brush to clean your tongue just ending the clean sooner. Although the speed and number of oscillations will be different. I stand by this as you do generally get more in the box with Oral-B brushes. Be that brush heads or other useful items. Oral-B offers a variety of replacement heads to ensure you can find the one that best suits your oral care needs. The below brush heads fit all of our electric toothbrush handles (except Oral-B iO). The Pro 3 3500 offers the features we regard as essential (a pressure sensor and a timer) at an affordable price. Sonicare brushes are comparable in performance and features, but Oral-B models like the Pro 3 3500 tend to be more affordable while still offering the key brushing capabilities that impact dental health.

It’s a bit of a hassle as you need to stand almost perfectly still in front of your camera and a smartphone holder like this is not what most of us want in a bathroom. The reason behind this power difference primarily is the battery technology used. Sonicare have for a long time been using the more desirable lithium-ion batteries whereas Oral-B have only just begun using lithium and although improved from older standards have not quite perfected it yet like Philips. Take Oral-B Smart 5 5000, you get a brush handle, a couple of brush heads, a charging stand, and a holder for your brush heads, travel case and smartphone stand. The great number of choices you have within the Oral-B range can make it really quite difficult to decide which toothbrush is right for you.Other toothbrush chargers not covered here include the Type 3755 that comes with the Genius X toothbrush, and the Type 4736, 4727 and 4804 chargers. Some of the markings on Braun Oral-B chargers include: There is not much difference in the size and weight all told, only a few grams but sit them side by side and we think that most would prefer the in-hand feeling of the Smart 5. You will notice some brushes occur twice from the same manufacturer. This is intentional and happens because of the cross over of features between the two manufacturers. My toothbrush handle is “Type 3762,” while my roommate’s charging stand is “Type 3757.” I know the two are supposed to be compatible, but is their US-UK difference a problem? Both do a job and give a home to brush heads, but the 9000 is a neater and more desirable solution.
