About this deal

High pressure fluid from spray can penetrate the skin. If not promptly & properly treated, the injury can cause permanent disability or amputation so you must ensure that you take all precautions. The majority of masonry paints will be acrylic. This is a water-based paint that combines pigments with an acrylic polymer binder. You will typically choose between smooth masonry paint and textured masonry paint when buying, with other specialist options offering better water performance. Smooth Masonry Paint The preparation is a crucial part of spraying. The set-up of the machine & all of the masking that is involved in protecting the surfaces you do not want to spray will take time. Using a roller will give you much more control over the application of the paint, thus less masking is required. A spray tip will have 3 digits for example: 41 7 . When spraying approx 10" from the surface the fan width will be double the first digit so 4 = 8". The second two digits represent the orifice which will control how much paint is allowed to pass through. This is measured in thousandths of an inch (17= 0.017") A larger fan will cover more area however if you were painting skirting boards you would only need a small fan so you might opt for a 211. Then you would need to consider what speed you want to be moving at because a larger orifice would allow you to apply more paint & work faster so then you could go for 213 instead.

Masonry paints with organic binders include silicone resin paints, dispersion paints and silicate dispersion paints. All these materials are ideally suited for application with an airless paint sprayer. The latest silicone resin paints, have advanced product properties. They offer several advantages such as extreme water resistance combined with high durability. Dispersion paint also has many advantages, they can be dyed in any colour and are available in various types (matt, gloss, silk matt). They can be painted over as often as desired. While masonry paint offers great benefits, it will need to be installed correctly to achieve them. It can be applied with either paint brushes or rollers, which we’ll explain in this section, or via spraying, which we’ll explain in the next. While masonry paint will bond to the concrete of a doorstep, much like paving slabs it is not a good idea to use it. They are not designed to have water pooling over them, which is likely to cause damage over time. They are also not resistant to footfall. Both factors mean that your doorstep is likely to require frequent repainting. Instead, you should use floor paint designed around heavy traffic. Can You Use Masonry Paint in a Bathroom? Ultimately, both airless & HVLP spray machines are used to spray exterior surfaces, with airless spray machines used for the large broadwall areas such as masonry and HVLP spray machines used for the finishing touches such as doors, soffits& UPVC. Spraying Vs Rolling

While a number from 4-6 hours is standard for masonry paint, you should look to the specific product description for an accurate answer, particularly when applying multiple coats of paint. Can I Mix Emulsion WIth Masonry Paint? Masonry paint can be used on plastic, whether looking to paint a fascia or a plant pot for external use. Can You Use Masonry Paint on Metal? The first port of call when painting any surface is the preparation. Once you have completely cleaned the masonry using a fungicidal wash & made any required repairs to the masonry, mask the surfaces that you do not want to paint. If the surface is unpainted, apply a layer of primer using a medium to long-piled roller (you won’t need to do this if you’ve already used a stabilising solution). HVLP spray machines in contrast offer high volume and low pressure, hence the name HVLP. The paint is applied through the paint being moved by a low pressure of air flowing from the machine. The paint is then atomized and dispensed through the gun. HVLP machines dispense paint at roughly 10 psi, allowing them to dispense paint in a much more controlled manor. This means that HVLP machines can achieve an accurate distribution of the paint, making them perfect for spraying finer details such as woodwork & UPVC. Masonry paint can be used on external metal, offering the benefits of weather protection. If looking to paint metal this way you should use a metal primer to ensure the best long-term performance. Can You Use Masonry Paint on Paving Slabs? Dispersion paint can be diluted with water and therefore is suitable for spraying with tips sizes: 519 to 525, depending on the material properties. Usually two layers of paint are applied.

All masonry paints will offer some level of water resistance, as they are intended for exterior use. However, some companies aim to offer better resistance, such as Emperor, who produces a range of waterproof masonry paints. While water resistance is important, what is crucial is that the paint is breathable, allowing moisture to move through from the masonry wall behind. If masonry paint is not breathable, you could face a range of serious issues. Self-Cleaning Masonry PaintIf the surface has already been painted, apply a layer of undercoat using a medium to long-piled roller. Binding agents such as cement, lime or silicate are used for mineral-bound exterior paints. All these materials are also suitable for spraying. Silicate paints or dispersion silicate paints when drying form a firm and durable bond with the substrate. The main advantages are extreme light and weather resistance, highly water resistant ty and low susceptibility to algae and mould growth. Often silicate paints are not thought to be able to be applied using airless sprayers but this is not the case Masonry paint manufacturers recommend using a primer if the surface you are painting has not been previously painted. Once the primer has fully dried if you have applied one, you can then apply your first coat of masonry paint. You can water down your first coat of masonry paint by the recommended amount, as instructed by the manufacturers data sheet. Once fully dry, you can then apply the second coat of masonry paint. If you wanted to use a TriTech tip with another brand of gun you can do this providing you use the TriTech guard and the gun has a 7/8" thread. If it was the other way round you would need the matching guard for the brand of tip you are using.
