The Gup-Q is a Gup modeled after the Hammerhead Shark, and is designed for ultimate search and rescue missions. It first appears in The Octonauts and The Caves of Sac Actun. It had an early appearance in the sixth Octonauts book by Meomi titled “The Octonauts and the Growing Goldfish” in 2014, before officially debuting in the Octonauts and The Caves of Sac Actun film. It has retractable legs that expand to help it stand and walk on land and contract to move fast through the water. The mouth can open up and act as a way to enter or exit the ocean or land. Octonauts: Above & Beyond is a children's television series that is the successor and spin-off of Octonauts. [1] Produced by Mainframe Studios and Silvergate Media for Netflix, the spin-off series premiered on September 7, 2021. [2] The series follows a similar structure to the original Octonauts series, but is primarily focused on terrestrial creatures and habitats. In addition, to cover this global range of missions, more characters join the crew as main characters in the series. The Octonauts' mission to explore Antarctica during which they marvel at sea tulips and hourglass dolphins becomes a desperate rescue as a group of sea stars and urchins are threatened by a brinicle - a rare underwater icicle that can freeze creatures on the sea bed. So the crew use the recently built GUP-S to save the day, with the help of a Weddell seal. Down in the darkness of the ocean deep, Peso and the Octonauts must help a tiny, injured dwarf lantern shark. But they have to find him first since he's so small! It can release the Gup-Q (the gup used to enter the caves), Gup-M (the motorcycle-like gups driven by Tweak and Codish in the jungle), and the Gup-J (The speeder jets that Kwazii, Dashi, and Shellington were riding on in the coral reef).Captain Barnacles crashed it in The Vampire Squid when he got slimed after accidentally spooking the squid. Peso and the gang try to repair a reef by replacing bleached corals, but a pod of playful dolphins make mischief for them until they discover that helping can be fun too. A sea star (starfish) named Twinkle has got lost on the beach, but the Octonauts have to search the sea from top to bottom to find her home, as there are nearly 2000 species of sea star living at all levels of the ocean. On a reef in the Sunlight Zone, they encounter a sunflower seastar and a predatory porcupine pufferfish. In the Twilight Zone they encounter brittle stars and get chased into a cave by a wolf eel, where they notice Twinkle glows in the dark, which means she is from the Midnight Zone. They end up crashing the Gup at the bottom of an ocean trench, but luminous sea stars light the way out for them.

Kwazii takes a vacation on Coconut Island where he gets hit by some coconuts. Then he and the Octonauts must help their old friends the Coconut Crabs discover who's stealing all their coconuts. The Octonauts help a 100-year-old spider crab that has got his leg trapped in a giant clam whilst en route to his 100th birthday party. It turns out that Kwazii's afraid of spiders, but he still helps, even though he thought the spider crab was a real spider at first.The Gup-M is a land-based Gup. It stands for the mudskipper and/or motorcycle. It first appears as art in the credits, before making its animated debut in the Caves of Sac Actun movie where Tweak, Codish, and Grouber use them to search the Yucatan Jungle to find Barnacles and Peso. Official merchandise and toys of the Gup have already been produced. When the Octopod cruises underwater to Captain Barnacles' homeland, the North Pole, it gets trapped in the Arctic sea ice, but one of Barnacles' old friends, Boris the narwhal, helps them break through the ice with his long tusk. Tweak and the Octonauts go to The Everglades to visit her dad, Ranger Marsh, and help him rescue some non-native creatures before a storm hits. The team's recently built GUP-K is also there to save the day when a fire spreads.

When a hungry tiger shark eats the camera that Tweak's turtle friend Sandy gets in the Octopod, she and the Octonauts must rescue her before it eats everything in its path. Based off of the toy design, it appears to just be a very basic metal hull designed to look like an orca, with some bobs and bits like "steering" and "engines" thrown into the mix. It may appear in a future season. When Barnacles, Kwazii, Peso, and Shellington find a mysterious hidden lake underneath Antarctica, Shellington is eager to find some new undiscovered creatures living in the red water. But why is the lake red? And are there actually any creatures living down so deep in the ice? Gups are special underwater submarine-like vehicles that the Octonauts use. There are currently 26 Gups (not including the so called " Terra Gups" from Octonauts: Above and Beyond) known in Octonauts, but not all of them have been seen. Most have appeared in the episodes and specials of the series, and at least 5 have appeared in the two movies ( The Underwater Caves of Sac Actun , Octonauts and the Great Barrier Reef and the The Octonauts Movie: The Ring of Fire.). The Gup-F was made to look like a clownfish. It did not have any real interior or exterior, but a basic metal frame with controls. Barnacles is the brave polar bear captain of the Octonauts. He knows how to drive any vehicle and is strong enough to lift a giant clam. Catchphrases: "Octonauts, let's do this", "Sound the Octo-Alert!", "Octonauts, to the launch bay!" and "Hold on, this could get bumpy".It is the only Gup where the Octonauts must wear diving equipment (helmet, oxygen tank, deep-sea suit (aka sting-proof suit), heat-proof diving suit, suction suit), as there is no outer shell nor window to help them stay dry. It is mainly driven by Tweak with Tunip in the another seat beside her, but she has been seen with Peso in the passenger seat in The Axolotl and Kwazii in The Grey Whales. Every time the Gup is in use, the driver and rider both wear helmets with eye covers. When Dashi is swallowed by a whale shark, mistaken for a cave, the Octonauts venture inside of him to come and rescue her.
