About this deal

Nyktos. Is. Everything. I won’t go into too much detail so as to avoid spoilers but the depths and levels of his character, the layers to why he is the way that he is, and the juxtaposition between the massively powerful and fierce Primal of Death and the man who had so much both taken from him and forced on him is equal parts breathtaking and heartbreaking. He is a contradiction of himself in nearly every way and I love him. SO MUCH. Y al final me ha sorprendido eso de De sangre y cenizas, y lo de ser el primer gen de la vida y la muerte, eso no me lo esperaba, así que ha sido un punto bueno porque habido muchas cosas que me venía venir como al final que la rapta Kolis… This book begins exactly where the first book ended and strikes an excellent pace from cover to cover, introducing you to the world, the Primals, and the people of Nyktos’ court intimately all the while never allowing the plot to drop or drag as you still get the beautiful character driven storylines we all know and love from this series. I honestly can’t say that I have a favorite character at this point anymore…Bele, Saion, Rhain, Ector, Aios, and of course Nektas and sweet babies Reaver and Jadis all absolutely SHINE!! They have my heart entirely. No questions asked. And I knew what that voice was as my grip on the blade steadied. Who it was. It was not the source of the embers. It was a spirit. Ghosts of many lives. A soul. I met Kolis’s stare, and while it was my lips that curved, it was Sotoria who smiled as I paid the price.”

ALITF takes place right after the heartbreaking events of book 1. In terms of plot, there isn’t much of any really. This felt completely character driven to me. Sera is battling her own demons, grief, and self-loathing. She is also attempting to make amends for her actions of book 1. There are so many reveals and questions answered in this one which I really appreciated because I feel like JLA has just dragged us along for several books. All this brings up the sad realisation from Sera that she will die no matter what, the future she had hoped for is gone and her death remains the only constant. I cried along when Ash cried tears of blood, the sign of a Primals absolutely in grief. It means the deal we made? It's over. The only thing between us now are these stupid embers. I want them gone, and then I want to be gone''

A devastatingly beautiful story, The EMOTION I felt? I seriously felt every single emotion from Sera throughout this book. I felt devastation, utter heartbreak. GOD damn it. Someone just love this women. Truly just love this women for her. You laugh, you cry, and you want to stab someone. Sera and Nyktos are the best kind of mess. My heart hurt continuously for her and for Nyktos. The chemistry between Sera and Nyktos is off the charts. The spice is perfection. Perfection. PERFECTION. La narrativa de la autora es muy buena, si que tengo que decir que en ocasiones es lenta, la trama avanza poco a poco, pero que en mi caso no lo he sentido porque todo me interesaba. Having said all that, I ended up settling on this rating because I love Nyktos so much. He is morally grey but also so absolutely focused on Sera. The spicy scenes were 🤌🏻🤌🏻😤, helped along by the amazing chemistry between these two! Also, the internal journey Sera goes through, while a bit annoying at times, was relatable and I felt that she did go through a lot of growth. The last quarter of this book moves pretty fast and the cliffy was, as expected, heartbreaking! I will be reading the next book in this story, if somewhat reluctantly…

We get the most beautiful and steamiest smut in this book. It's so obvious how the deal they made ''pleasure for the sake of pleasure'' is definitely not at all about that but something more. I really liked the fact that Ash didn't dwell too much about Sera's betrayal...he truly accepted her reasons why and understood where she was coming from and how desperate she must have been to want to fulfill the plan. He kisses her even though he said it would never happen again, he touches her and cares for her in ways he shouldn't want to, but you cannot help but realise how kind he is despite what he thinks of himself to let something that massive go without truly feeling resentment. As we learned in book one, Sera carries the Embers of Life. The reason why Daddy Nyktos' daddy (get it, daddy? because Ash is daddy Nyktos and I'm talking about his actual dad? No? Okay, I'm cool I promise!) made the deal with her family and the reason why she is meant to be his consort, his Liessa, his queen.I'm glad that Sera and Nyktos maintain their individuality because that's the issue I had with Casteel's characterization being almost non-existent in TWOTQ and dependent on Poppy. Sera and Nyktos's arcs were balanced even though there was more focus on Sera's but that makes sense for the plot. But there is that foreseen unexpected thread—the unpredictable, unknown, and unwritten. The only thing more powerful than the Fates…

Though at first, most of Nyktos’s people resent Sera, but as she realizes Nyktos was never her target, everything begins to change; especially her feelings toward him. Nyktos truly accepts that she was trained to enact her forced plans, but now Sera is free, determined to help defeat the real enemy. Sera had been trained all her life to kill Nyktos, and now she knows that everything she knew was false. Sera and Nyktos were so great together, with their chemistry off the wall. Nyktos continues to protect Sera, and slowly all his crew, begin to care for her too. I loved how Sera would not listen to others, when she wanted to train, as well as to help Nyktos; the warriors always gave in, and her wonderful abilities won them all over. I know, why complain about too many new books - I DON'T, I can't get enough of JLA and this world. But I don't like to being forced. I said what I said. I completely understand that Sera was insistent on going to Kolis and continue with the initial plan that was set for Nyktos, but her instance also came about because she found herself being cared for. For the first time in her life someone actually cared about her wellbeing, someone is there for her if she wants to talk, simply put, someone is there for her. Lo bueno es que en este tomo la trama fluye de forma intermitente entre escenas de acción y momentos más relajados, es una alternancia que se nos viene en todo el libro.Nyktos is also... stubborn. Some of the decisions he made had me wondering what in the hell he was actually thinking when he decided that was the best course of action.

After four Blood and Ash series books and one Flesh and Fire series book it was bound to happen…a book has finally overtaken A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire as my all time favorite and it is A Light in the Flame!! Did I expect him to say something else? That I mattered? To him? And that he cared for me, even though he couldn’t love? After what I’d plotted? I didn’t. i think Jennifer made it clear in this book that while nyktos may have been angry at sera after finding out her plans in the last book, he never hated her, he was just hurt but he understood why, but nyktos.. my man.. you already love her En resumen, me ha faltado acción, aunque por otro lado me ha gustado bastante la historia así que tengo sentimientos encontrados, por una parte me ha gustado pero por la otra se me ha quedado flojo y pesado con tanta escena sexual. These characters names are like a chorus in my mind that won't stop. 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐚. 𝐀𝐬𝐡. 𝐍𝐞𝐤𝐭𝐚𝐬. 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐫. 𝐉𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐬. 𝐄𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫. 𝐑𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐧. 𝐁𝐞𝐥𝐞. 𝐒𝐚𝐢𝐨𝐧. 𝐀𝐢𝐨𝐬. (𝐋𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐡. 𝐑𝐡𝐚𝐡𝐚𝐫. 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐨𝐧.) Over and over. Like this wasn't enough to drive me through a wall, add the knowledge that I have to wait until Autumn 2023 to get the next part of this story. I'm done for. That thought alone is simply unbearable.

Look, I am not an editor (but sometimes think I should be because I HAVE to be better than JLA’s), but COME ON. THESE ARE EASY FIXES. HOWEVER, the end of Chapter 28 and Chapter 29 left me in tears. I was screaming (on the inside) and pleading that whatever it was Sera walked in on was NOT at all what she truly believed. Her losing control was heartbreaking and filled me with so much sorrow. But then she started to really admit to herself and come to terms with her feelings and respect others which really made her character better. Honestly, I see this moment happening in the next book. There is no other way, and she makes him keep his promise. They go off to her lake for her death and this is the moment he realises he loves her and has possibly loved her for a long time. It will be the most angsty and sad scene if it happens like this, but it also would be such a powerful moment. The characters- I loved Sera and Nyktos in the first book. They made me forget all about my dislike for Poppy and Casteel after the third book. However, much like FBAA, the characters went downhill in this installment. Sera fell into the same trap as Poppy did. They are dumb and they do dumb things, but everyone around them thinks they're brave. JLA's big weakness is writing realistic badass female characters and Sera is a carbon copy of Poppy in almost every way, right down to her "stabby" behavior and her ridiculous amounts of questions (more on that later). As for Nyktos, I still enjoy him. He's fine, but he's the book boyfriend that I needed him to be. He's just meh. And that's sad because there's so much potential.
