About this deal

On her birthday, Nic is granted a hellhound as a gift and is supposed to attend a fun book signing until a series of events lead Nic's father to keeping her home.

There was just the right amount of choice to suit everyone without being overwhelming and I received comments from parents and staff about the quality of books offered compared to previous sales which have always been based around current crazes and well known celebrity authors.Despite reading this book for the first time, it still gave me strong nostalgia vibes of being back in an adventure book, as with all those of my childhood. The book celebrates African American culture, history, and heritage while exploring complex themes and interpersonal relationships in an approachable manner.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Bookwagon is overjoyed to welcome The Manifestor Prophecy, Angie Thomas’s debut middle grade title, aboard. Whenever I read a fantasy, I want things to be shown to me not told especially when it comes to intricate world building. I could see my 12 year old loving it, while at the same time my 42 year old self felt it was right at my level too. Mae Nic Blake yn un o’r grŵp Manifestor – pobl Ddu sydd â’r Ddawn o’u mewn – ac sy’n gallu gweld fampirod, bleidd-ddynion a phob math o fodau hynod.I just know that any child that sees themselves represented in the pages of this story is going to absolutely love it […] I could tell Angie Thomas had a lot of fun writing this book, you could really feel it in the pages and with every new magical mishap that happens to our group of friends.

All the brilliance you'd expect from Angie Thomas: a page-turning plot, pitch-perfect characters, heart and substance, and real stakes that real kids will care about--plus magic! I haven't charted out my visits for the summer term, but I'm sure there are several in the south) and thanks so much for being so fantastic! Between the magical elements and the magical creatures, it's easy to see that middle grade readers will find this one enjoyable.Nic Blake and the Remarkables is one of those books that hooked me from the very start, and I was excited about it because it was written by Angie Thomas and it definitely didn’t disappoint. The Manifestor mythology combines African and African American folklore and Biblical stories, and the book explores Black Americans' historical and present-day traumas alongside a fast-paced adventure and inventive worldbuilding. It feels as though the author doesn't trust the readers to build the necessary connections to understand the intent or purpose of the story. This is a very fun start to what I think will be an exciting series, and I'm looking forward to what comes next. And so begins a thrilling adventure involving shapeshifters, wizards, the devil’s daughter and even a dragon.

This experience has been fantastic primarily for the children, the school and also for me (professionally). Others, not so much--like not being trusted to learn magic because you might use it to take revenge on an annoying neighbor. Internationally bestselling superstar author Angie Thomas makes her middle grade debut with the launch of an inventive, hilarious, and suspenseful new contemporary fantasy trilogy inspired by African American history and folklore. Maar op andere momenten - de meeste momenten - klonk het heel modern en normaal Nederlands, zoals wij ook zouden spreken.A page-turning plot, pitch-perfect characters, heart and substance, and real stakes that real kids will care about—plus magic! It’s one thing to cover up being a Remarkable for safety in busy Jackson, but quite another to learn that your father is a thief. Those outside of America may find references go over their head but don't lose anything of the plot if so. As a white, UK-based reader, I liked both the fantasy plot and the weaving into it of important topics.
