About this deal

If you have trouble with bad things happening to young kids, skip A Father's Love and, moreso, Bullied. The final and titular story, “Deserter,” is about a military deserter hiding in Japan years after World War II, because the people hiding him convince him the war is still going on.

Unendurable Labyrinth has an intriguing premise of a couple of hikers stumbling across an extreme band of ascetic monks who are trying to mummify themselves alive for… no real reason. There’s usually at least one or two stories in a Junji Ito collection that stays with me, for better or worse, but I don’t see any of the stories in Deserter doing that - they’re on the whole a very forgettable and unimpressive bunch. Esta vez muestra varias historias de sus primeros años y se puede ver cómo su arte aunque todavía no se refinaba ya estaba ahí, las historias incluidas son buenas pero realmente lo mejor es ver cómo era su arte a lo que es ahora. In the story, a girl who likes eating exotic foods — like insects or snake blood — bites off more than she can chew when she finds someone into foods even more exotic and skin-crawling.

There was an argument which culminated in Kimie running from the house and being killed by an American bombing run.For a complete list of books Kris has read, as well as shorter less eloquent reviews, check Kris’ goodreads out.

Biography: Junji Ito made his professional manga debut in 1987 and since then has gone on to be recognized as one of the greatest contemporary artists working in the horror genre. I am a huge fan of Junji Ito, but I have found his recent story collections to be a little lazy in terms of artstyle. For fun I've rated my top 3 favorite stories and one for the most disturbing (in my opinion) Why not? They find a note written by Furukawa two days after Kimie's death; he had committed suicide because he could not live with the knowledge he was responsible for her demise. However, if you’re already familiar and want to consume more of his work, I would totally recommend it just to see how the author evolved and to read those last five stories. Deserter is a short story collection by Junji Ito, one of Japan’s most famous and successful horror manga creators.

This collection of 12 short stories features some of the author’s earliest works, including a tale of people with appetites for bizarre and unsettling food, another about an army deserter from World War Two who is kept in hiding by a vindictive family for eight years after the end of the war, and a story about a man who refuses to sleep, lest he allow his dreamworld counterpart to take over his body in the real world. One of the tourists is Evan, taking an enforced holiday from his family and work in Belfast after breaking down after the death of his daughter in infancy. That story in particular did a great job of being upsetting without depicting violence or frightening imagery; the simple petulant cruelty of the situation and subsequent suggestion of harm in one scene was more than enough to stay with me.Many of the tales are pretty sparse, providing a simple and direct route to a chilling final image or thought. In ‘Face Thief’, the simple art combined with the premise (there are two unrelated girls who look identical) results in a lot of confusion; I didn’t know who was supposed to be who half the time.
