Crafted by the expert mezcaleros at Ilegal Mezcal in Oaxaca, Mexico, this young mezcal is made with 100% Espadín agave, roasted in underground pits and fermented with wild yeasts.

Marquez emphasizes that Ilegal isn’t attempting to showcase a singular or superior style of production, but is rather pursuing its own preference. This artisan spirit is created by brothers and fourth-generation mezcaleros Armando and Alvaro Hernandez. Serving Suggestions: This is a great introduction to mezcal, so neat is the way to go – but it makes for an intriguing comparison with a traditional Tequila margarita, where that earthy smoke really cuts through. The mouth feel is extremely smooth, savoury, sweet and smoky characteristics all evolving on the palate with hints of green apple, eucalyptus and pepper. Most often consumed neat in Mexico, mezcal is now finding a place on many cocktail lists across the US and Europe. The spirit is then double-distilled and bottled at 40% ABV, resulting in a smooth and herbaceous flavour profile with notes of citrus and smoke.

The quality of our packaging ensures the wine arrives safe and sound, it is full compostable or recyclable. Despite the foul offensive odor the taste was very weak and mostly flavorless with just an aftertaste of white granulated sugar and peroxide. Ilegal Mezcal was founded in 2006 by John Rexer, who began by smuggling this product into his Bar, Cafe No Se, in Antigua, Guatemala. The General Wine Company sources wines from all over the world, but with a particular focus on small, independent producers.In the case of Ilegal Joven, the Espadín agave once again proves its versatility by triggering aromas of citrus, green apple and a hint of white pepper. Rested for two months, this wonderful Blanco has tasting notes of citrus, vanilla and sweet agave, with a long smooth finish.

Fresh herbal mint, dried oregano and thyme aromas meet a balanced and elegant liquid that offers harmonious hints of tamarind, pomegranate, banana and mango. Eucalyptus and mineral aromas compliment hints of green apple, pear, fresh citrus, and red chiltepe, with light smoke and lingering heat.
