About this deal

This book is truly revealing about how hollywood stars were forced to hide their true sexualities to maintain image and box office appeal. Furthermore, I also feel that sexual encounters are a personal matter shared by two people, not something to be gloated about. However, the big draw of this book is Scotty's tawdry times running a makeshift queer brothel out of a gas station on Hollywood Blvd.

I also did not need to know that the designer of the original Barbie was into surprising young women while fondling himself in a casket. Just as Katharine Hepburn was in the closet until she died, there are so many more current celebrities who are in the closet about their bisexuality. Scotty meanders from story to story, writing in a style that feels like one long, amusing conversation flitting from anecdote to anecdote, told over a glass of good wine while taking in a fantastic vista. I'll get to the details of his sexual exploits later, but this former Marine also details his time serving in the Armed Forces in the Pacific.

Scotty Bowers is a Midwestern World War II vet who, after the war, settled in Los Angeles and took a job at a gas station on Hollywood Boulevard.

To hear him tell it, he’d been chased after sexually from a young age by all sorts of people – men, women, priests, people on his paper route. The Guardian (UK) "After five years maintaining that sex secrets of Tinseltown's elite, at the age of 88, Bowers is revealing all in a sensational new memoir. On the other hand, Bowers is comfortable with his sexuality and probably doesn't even have the feeling that anything he has done is wrong. David Patrick Columbia, New York Social Diary "They said he'd never talk -- but at long last, the legendary Scotty Bowers has told his story, with all the honesty, compassion and insight that made him a confidant of movie stars, directors, billionaires, and politicians. You can only make acusations like these when no one can refute your arguments becouse they are dead. People who tend to believe propaganda, such as those manufactured Tracy/Hepburn romance stories, may be surprised. An important content note: There is shit in this book (not just figuratively; be prepared to have the aforementioned Laughton and Power ruined for you forever) that is not fun or frisky at all.

A World War II veteran and Hollywood gas-station attendant describes how his good looks and open bisexuality culminated in liaisons with numerous celebrities from Spencer Tracy and Vivien Leigh to Cary Grant and the abdicated Edward VIII, describing how the lifestyle he embraced was part of a growing movement that contributed to the sexual revolution. After I bedded him at least a couple dozen times and spent long nights with him, he pretended that he didn't know me! He justifies this by saying that indulging people's voyeurism is no different from any other kink he serviced, but the fact that the couples in question didn't consent to putting on this show and weren't being paid or even informed after the fact is gross. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. In the mid 1970s, when the film Deep Throat was popular, Bowers claims to have arranged for Linda Lovelace to give instruction on deepthroating at parties. To others who reviewed the book and questioned why sometimes Scotty has a lot of details and sometimes he doesn't - gee, I'm 51 and I can remember some things in my past really clearly and others not so clearly. During the time the studios held their stars to a strict moral code and had family friendly images built around their personal lives. You'll get the gist, although you may wonder as I did why a guy with such a high profile isn't remotely wealthy in his 90s, and seems to be a run-of-the-mill hoarder yet doesn't have dozens of photo albums featuring himself and his many celebrity conquests.

Adam Tschorn, writing for the Los Angeles Times, described the book as having an uneven, at times choppy, pace and much purple prose, highlighting a passage in which Bowers describes how he milked a cow. As revelation-filled as Hollywood Babylon, Full Service provides a lost chapter in the history of the sexual revolution and is a testament to a man who provided sex, support, and affection to countless people. Combine that with the fact that he was an accommodating, likable, preternaturally easy-going guy who never drank. If you know your Old Hollywood lore and are really familiar with the stars and second-tiers of Hollywood’s Golden Age, you’re going to have your mind blown with some of these stories. As a young boy, it seems he could only marvel at the amount of sex the animals on his farm were having.
