About this deal

This book is your first step in learning the drums, and it offers a flexible foundation for building up your skills. You’ll learn to understand the bigger picture of how to move around the drum set – from toms to cymbals – and improve your hand technique in the process. We are one of the top suppliers of woodwind, brass and orchestral strings across Sussex and are main agents for most of the instruments we sell. And oh if you’re not ready to commit to a drumming guide book yet, we have shared our drumming practices previously. A brief roundup of some available beginning snare drum books— books for first year students who have never played before, roughly age 10 and up.

For lower level students trying to learn to read big band charts in their school jazz band, I really like the Bobby Gabriele book "Chart Reading Workbook for Drummers". Overall, it’s a great book for the first-time player, and complements private drum lessons particularly well. The Absolute Beginners course has been designed to tell you everything you need to know from the very first time you sit at your Drums. You'll notice that many reviewers recommend this for intermediate-advanced drummers, but even if you're a beginner there's no reason to get discouraged. The book also includes ten play-along tunes for constructing your own drum parts, using them in a musical context, and having more fun during practice sessions. After learning everything contained within, you will be a drummer fluent in many languages, ready to land any type of gig thrown at you! In 2015, Brandon enrolled at MacEwan University in Edmonton, Alberta to earn a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz and Contemporary Popular Music. Chances are if you had asked any drummer for learning resources, you’d definitely have heard of this book.

It starts out glacially slow, with six dense pages covering quarter notes and quarter rests, rapidly progressing to complex 8th note/8th rest and 16th note studies.

It has also proven to be a very popular drum book for drum teachers to teach their younger students with. Once you learn the concepts, they are applicable to the drum kit, whether it’s coming up with feels, beats or a solo. Once you’ve developed competent stick control, its time to start working the next essential skill set that every drummer needs to develop; ‘limb independence’. Chester is presenting that after learning each exercise, you will start to slowly groove with it, naturally playing it rather than reading straight from the page.
