Not to say that their character development wasn't thorough but there was just something off for me, I can't quite place it. This book is up there on my favourite reads of 2014, hell even up there on my favourite reads of ALL TIME! We are elegant creatures capable of depth and empathy and heartbreak, who clutch Kindles and hurt and feel – especially at 3 AM. Gus has been pretty much present along her side for every first and every moment they have been together, therefore to begin with life is strange , still good but different. By the time I was half way through the book I was fully aware of where it was going and how it was going to end.

But I love that this book also made me smile so big, made me laugh, and genuinely made me happy and look at life in a different light. I can't say that I didn't cry big fat tears, but I can say that I smiled far more than I cried while reading this book. More importantly, she has a big secret that she's been keeping from everyone she loves, which she knows will ruin everything. Before long, Keller has let Kate into the private aspects of his life that he doesn't share with others. I hope that when I begin to feel sorry for myself for things I cannot change I look on the Bright Side.And I know you could argue that the ending had happy moments and all that, but death of a loved one is hard, and honestly I hate sad books. I'm sure the nations leading psychologists might theorize that my "issues" with female characters probably stem from a place of jealousy. Soon Katie finds herself falling for Keller; and as much as she tries to keep it platonic between them he still breaks through her walls and gains entrance to her heart. The girl bounces from encountering one "interesting" person to another to another to another til I think the count is close to 15(!

Keller was living a life pleasing others, never taking his own happiness into account, carrying secrets from his past that weighed him down. It reminded me today to smile at strangers a little more widely , love my husband a little more intensely , hug my son a little more tightly . Each chapter is a new day in the life of Kate Sedgwick, which had I liked her (more on that later), maybe I would have been more marginally more engaged. She's so brave, so strong, so drop-dead gorgeous, so caring, so loving, so talented, so smart, so positive, so kind, and so on. I am so nervous because this is a book I really want everyone to try out, but I feel my soul will break if someone hates it.

Kim Holden brought this powerful and breathtaking story to life and did it beautifully with heartfelt and gut wrenching emotion . BUT, one night before Kate leaves home to go studying in Minnesota they have sex, but after that it's like nothing ever happened, still best buddies. Kate has been blessed with a unique and enduring friendship with her buddy Gus, an up and coming musician with his band Rook. Entertainment Level- Lo-Med-Hi I say Medium, the book held my attention, pulled out a few laughs and caused some big grins to spread across my face. When I first started reading Bright Side, I knew I was going to love the book, but I wasn’t quite sure where the plot was going.

Kate has a best friend named Gus, who is a rock star, who loves her, but doesn't say shit, because she deserves someone better. I read lots of books and ‘meet’ lots of characters but there are very few I can say inspire me to want to be better. It’s hard for me to describe the relationship between Kate and Gus, because although it wasn’t romantic (at least from her perspective), it wasn’t exactly platonic either. I decided to pick up Bright Side after hearing many gushing reviews and being recommended as a tearjerker.
