I guess it would be hard to dislike this considering it does smell like Chanel N° 05 and I’m on N° 05’s side of history (yes, it’s amazing, revolutionary, sensual, erotic, it’s not overrated at all and does NOT smell dated. My husband and I are older people, and he loves Arpège and other classics on me much more than the newer candy/ambroxan concoctions I wear to work. However, the 21 year old me probably wasn’t ready for the heavy artillery of aldehydes, because I didn’t like it. Arpege makes me think of scented candles alongside 100-year-old grand pianos, or maybe an expensive bar of triple-milled French soap in an antique rosewood cabinet.

of all the flower notes listed, the only ones i cant smell are the neroli and camellia, which is just fine. Definitely one to test on skin as I can see it may not work on everyone like the way I hoped no 5 or L'air de temps would. Reading descriptions of it as a more affordable and a bit forgotten no 5, and then stumbled upon an ad for it in one of my grandmothers old magazines from the 50’s, I set out to try it.

Overall I think lovers of classic fragrances like Chanel 5, Shalimar, even Bal à Versailles will find something to like about this. My experience is valid and many, probably more than you'd expect, will feel the same way or even worse about it. Coriander glows like an emerald in the heart and sandalwood creates a woody creaminess gently radiating in the dry-down.

Don't mistake me, I love an unusual scent (think turps, tarmacadam, motor oil and creosote) and the new dolly accord is actually quite addictive, so that first hit is the best.The vetiver/patchouli/benzoin in the dry down is wonderful and smells a bit similar to the drydown of Narciso Amber Musc. The olfactory evolution over the hours is surprising, resulting in an amber, mystical and sensual olfactory kaleidoscope with enveloping and creamy reminiscences.If I'm anxious it brings me in an enchanted wood and the wind lulls me with whiffs of vanilla and benzoin.
