The product has an excellent wear, impact and abrasion resistance like heavy foot and vehicle traffic. As well as being resistant enough to bear the weight of a steady stream of traffic, the smooth and seamless surface created by epoxy coating is more forgiving than other types of flooring on the machinery that travels over it.

Generally, an epoxy floor should last a minimum of three years and often around five years before it starts to show some signs of deterioration. The standard epoxy floor coating can be used as the priming coat as these thinner products will penetrate the concrete, followed by the Epoxy floor coating HB to achieve a durable, high gloss finish. When it comes to applying an epoxy floor coating in a garage, you need to follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully. This means one person is able to brush apply the coating to the perimeter of the room whilst the other starts from a set point internally and rolls out from there.

Epoxy is a better choice for in the house or basement than Polyureas or Urethanes because a 100% solids epoxy does not have lingering odor and solvent issues.

If this is not possible you could apply RFC Epoxy Damp Proof Membrane to your floor following which you can paint over instantly. Make sure you use a broom stick, mixer on a slow running drill or pallet knife to mix and mixing should take place for 3-5 mins to ensure all the content is properly mixed together to avoid colour and or drying problems. You can use a diamond grinder to grind the concrete slab or ‘surface scrabble’ – this effectively takes the top off the concrete leaving it open-pored. There is no concern with the under floor heating, though I would leave it off or on a low and constant setting during application and for the first few days.

Single-coat epoxy products should never use color flakes and are likely to suffer UV damage unless an aliphatic urethane is applied over it.
