Overdrawn at the Blood Bank: Obelus badly wounds Cora before she, Ampersand, and the Genome can escape in one of the autonomous plates. It's funny, I worried they might feel gratuitous, but instead they kind of took me back to the time itself and how things were back then. Axiom's End might be a story about truth, it might have stuff to say on government accountability and censorship, it might have amazing aliens and an intricate story, but to me first and foremost this book is about love. Seeing the car briefly stunned her into a stupor; she had not actually expected to see anything there. As a species, they are capable of building a Dyson Sphere and exterminating life across an entire planet.

This isn't a girl falling in love with a vampire or a zombie because he's a hot boy, or even something resembling a boy.

Axiom's End is engaging precisely because it is about something all of us have experienced: That moment when you grow up enough to realize that the universe is more wondrous and dangerous than you could ever have imagined.The truth was she had used that money on a Neko Case concert, her third this year, but Demi didn’t need to know that. The book was released as an audiobook by Macmillan Audio, with narration by Abigail Thorn and Stephanie Willis. The car was a manual transmission with a stick shift its previous owner had wrapped in duct tape years ago, a time bomb the color of expired baby food that should have gone off sooner than it did. The first few chapters are a little slow but it soon picks up and becomes a very engaging book which kept me turning the pages.

Ampersand believes that they'll sterilize Earth rather than let humanity expose this axiom as false. The book ends with the two characters closer than ever, with an undeniable connection that's so akin to love that I couldn't see it any other way. An alternate history first contact adventure set in the early 2000's, pitched as Arrival meets The Three-Body Problem, by video essayist Lindsay Ellis.
