If you’re still not (thinking of) reading this (or maybe have only read the first three books), please check out my reviews of the previous books and join me as a *Bran. I feel like Bands of Mourning works particularly well because by this point we are already very well acquainted with the magic systems, and we've warmed up to our new cast of characters.

The scope and breathe of what the Cosmere will become is simply astounding and I simply cannot wait for each subsequent book in the series. There were new characters and adventures in a fascinating new time period, but in a world his fans had already fallen in love with. Wax’s anger is palpable and coming to terms with the events from SoS plays a large role in some of the decisions he is making.

In a world of disappointing characters hardly even comparable to the legends from the time of the Final Empire, this girl stands out as a shining beacon of perfection. To find out the answer to that question, we’ll haSteris’s character, at least for me, has surpassed Marasi at this point, and I feel a little sad that she is not getting as much time as others do.

I don’t want to spoil stuff, so there can’t be much more in regards to plot, but I will tell you that there are fabulous action and fight scenes, great dialogue and as I mentioned, Steris is just the coolest! If you’ve read all of my adult fantasy novels and want to see some behind-the-scenes information, that collection is a must-read. As always Sanderson delivers compelling characters, a fascinating, twisty-turny story, SHOCKING REVELATIONS (™), and just as many (new, amazing, jaw dropping, life changing) questions as answers. The new Mistborn books move the series into a richly imagined 19th century analogue world with elements of the wild west mixed with magic and science.

It's the main reason why I couldn't give these books 5 stars and it's more of a fault on my own rather than Sanderson. The characters really stand out in my mind and they're still talking and quipping, and I'm getting a whole bunch of warm and fuzzies. The Bands of Mourning consists of thirty-one chapters, one prologue, and one epilogue, reaching a total 127,456 word count. I don’t have much to say about the book, but the problems I had in the last book were resolved here. Bloodmaker bones tend to be particularly interesting, as your time spent weak and sickly creates oddities in your joints and bones that can be quite distinctive.

At New Seran, Wax attends a party held by prominent noblewoman Lady Kelesina Shores, after acquiring a strange coin and partially uncovering a conspiracy Shores is involved in. I learned how much power over a situation you gain when you decide that you don't care what others think of you. Waxillium Ladrian is recruited to travel south to the city of New Seran to investigate, and along the way he discovers hints that point to the true goals of his uncle Edwarn and the shadowy organization known as The Set. I hope we get more about him in the next book because I think there is still unexplored depths to his character that we need. The Bands of Mourning are the mythical metal minds owned by the Lord Ruler, said to grant anyone who wears them the powers that the Lord Ruler had at his command.
