About this deal

Three aspherical lenses, including a large diameter aspherical lens at the foremost surface, are used to effectively minimise coma flare, etc. Videographers will be thrilled to hear that Nikon has done a great job of controlling focus breathing, just as it did in the other members of its Z-mount F2. in a lot of situations, but when shooting landscapes, architecture, flat fields, or any scene where we desire most of the frame to be tack sharp, we'd suggest stopping down at least a stop or two. The HB-96 lens hood is the smaller and lighter of the pair, and is compatible with the standard lens cap.

Cut a "gel" (gelatine) filter to the correct shape, then slip it in the rear slot with the lens off the camera. You need a USA Warranty Card, and the serial number must match the one on the bottom of your lens, otherwise you have no warranty.

Front lens element has been treated with a water- and oil-repellent coating to benefit working in harsh environmental conditions. You can look at the 14-24mm from outside of the picture angle and still see glass, which means that stray light can hit that glass, too.

Really though, it comes down to your ability to hold a camera still combined with what subjects you’ll be shooting.Armchair experts are going to have a hard time finding any fault with it, which makes it an easy lens to review. This 14-24mm is significantly sharper than any other fixed or zoom ultrawide from Canon or Nikon that I've ever used, and I've used both Canon and Nikon's 14mm, 18mm and ultra-wide zoom lenses extensively. Hand tremor is a random occurrence, so at marginal speeds some frames will be perfectly sharp while others will be in various stages of blur — all at the same shutter speed. Unfortunately, they also have a noticeably brighter outline or soap bubble effect which can make the bokeh very busy-looking. Two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) elements and three aspherical lenses control chromatic and spherical aberrations and combine to enhance sharpness and contrast.

Personally, at these focal lengths, I think for a grab shot it’s handy to have but if I was taking a shot that counted, I’d always want to have a tripod available regardless. More samples throughout this review at Bokeh, Distortion, Macro, Sharpness, Spherochromatism and Sunstars. The Sigma is a much more affordable lens, costing a bit less than two-thirds as much as the Nikon Z 14-24mm F2. A word of warning, if you’re a purist who hates to get your gear marked, you’ll be out of luck with the 14-24 as removing and replacing the lens cap marks the hood slightly every time you do it, due to a (needed) snug fit. It's also flat, which is a major contrast to the large, bulging front elements of the earlier DSLR lens and most similar optics. Better than any other brand, even if you're in AF-C and grab the manual-focus ring, it just swaps to manual focus instantly and stays in manual focus. Nisen bokeh' can result in what looks like motion blur where there is none, or double-edges to slightly out-of-focus subjects. Truly in a class of its own, this ultra-wide-angle lens delivers incredible sharpness, contrast and colour—whether you shoot stills or movies.

I coon oh good grief you're not understanding, by collapsing I mean a lens where you have to twist it to a given position BEFORE you can use it and the camera will recognise it, then collapse it back to the original position after you have used it. Where once good performance was held only for the flagship models, lower end bodies have excellent focus systems now. And while it's not a huge difference, there's no denying that the Nikon 14-24mm is both shorter and lighter than its nearest rival on another platform, the Sigma 14-24mm F2. They're a bit less crisp than those of some rival lenses, but the spikes are fairly even in length even if they diffuse fairly quickly.

If you don't need quick access to the filter or the ability to rotate it, you can potentially save money by instead using trimmable drop-in gel filters that slip into the rear of the lens prior to mounting. After all, parts of this lens are made with (high quality) plastic as apposed to the mostly metal f2.
