Judging by the image Paramount is using the new remaster that Juice used for the 25th anniversary Blu-ray when it came out, and that means a very nice looking 4K UHD disc. For some key sequences, it’s hard not to wonder what a DTS:X or Atmos track might have done for the film. This year marks the 25 th anniversary of Juice, one of the few notable “hood” movies to come out during a time when Spike Lee had made a name for himself and opened up a path for other directors to make films about black culture in LA and NY. This UHD release of Juice includes all of the extras from the 2016 Blu-ray sans the still photo gallery. Yet, as I said, most of the LPs from this period don't sound all that great, even with good, deep cleanings.

mix doesn’t stand up to action tracks or the like, but it does everything asked of it without breaking a sweat and detailed enough to have me tip my hat to the mixers.

But shining even brighter than him is Shakur, who makes a substantial impact as a raw and natural presence.

Surround Sound Presentation: This is a front heavy track with a lot of music taking up the rear channels to go along with some mindful ambiance. Queen Latifah, still a rapper with street cred (like Ice Cube in Boyz n the Hood) and not a safe mainstream movie star (like Ice Cube in Are We There Yet? That end sequence with Glenn Plummer when he's trying to get the kid away from "Ray Ray" was hysterical -- "DEUCE IS HIS DADD DEE.

years on this film still brings the full weight and impact of its story to the screen - even if I wish Dickerson was allowed to present his original unaltered ending. Sure the quality is not as robust, but it's quick convenient and I don't have to deal with Samsung's toy remotes. Juice raised quite a few eyebrows from alarmist critics, just as the James Cagney gangster films did many decades before. Dialog is the main focus of the film, and the vocals are firmly planted in the center of room, with the front soundstage take the rest of the work (or at least MOST of the rest). Dickerson, best known for being Spike Lee’s Director of Photography, put something special together here.

Features vintage interviews with the Shocklee brothers about their score, as well as Erik B, EPMD, and members of Cypress Hill speaking about their contributions to the unforgettable soundtrack and why they chose to be a part of the film. Transfer on this disc is awesome, but man, I had to crack up and almost cry when a "Bud Dry" truck drove by the background.Being the cinematographer for Spike Lee director Ernest Dickenson crashed onto the scene with a stunning debut 25 years ago in the form of Juice, a powerful drama about 4 kids growing up in the hood, but soon falling apart as violence and weapons enter their young world. Black levels are excellent as well, although it sometimes looks a bit murky in the shadow department. While not as highly acclaimed, Juice joined films such as Boyz N the Hood and later on Menace II Society and also provided an early look at how charismatic and compelling Tupac Shakur was on the silver screen. The film also gave us the break outs of Tupac Shakur and Omar Epps while boasting a killer soundtrack and gut punching coming of age story that found itself among a pack of films covering similar territory in the early 90s.

Walking With a Panther exhibited surface noise/crackle, heavy sibilance and end-of-side distortion, and that was after a good cleaning.

However, he takes things to another level in terms of an action prowess and demonstrating levels of suspense not yet adventured into at the time with the canon of Spike Lee. Clarity/Detail: Thankfully Paramount has been very kind to the film celebrating an anniversary, as the low-budget feature boasts a nice 1080p transfer. I personally am not a fan of the man in his life, but I have to admit that he was a talented man, and was able to pull off a solid performance.
