About this deal

No respectable woman would have anything to do with the "Bane and Blight of the Ballisters"—and he wants nothing to do with respectable women. Afterwards, Jessica promptly falls asleep, causing her husband to seethe "that was what he was supposed to do".

The only explanation I could find for it, aside from her skillful writing, was the fact that Jessica was the best and the perfect heroine for Dain. Set in 1828, the story follows the Marquess of Dain, an aristocrat known as "Lord Beelzebub" and the "Lord of Scoundrels" for his unscrupulous, immoral behavior. The trouble is, the devil in question is so shockingly irresistible, and the person who needs the most saving is—herself! It was fun to read a complicated hero (even if he gave incel vibes at the beginning of the book) and Jessica was such a fun heroine.I loved when he was trying to get her to say she loved him again and how he realized he fucked up and didn’t want her being all agreeable.

Oh, it is the God awful bastard of his running naked around the place while trying to climb draperies (he is 8! The blurb was interesting enough, and the reviews I read were mixed, but then I thought, what the hell, and decided to give it go. Miss Jessica Trent arrives in Paris to rescue her dim-witted brother, Bertie, from a ruinous association with a group of rogues known for their hard and fast life of debauchery. The bell had no sooner ceased tinkling than Dain heard a familiar male voice muttering in English accents, and an unfamiliar, feminine one murmuring in response.

Fun fact - I found this stepback at a little free library in the middle of my sister’s bachelorette party last year. It's worth noting that both of these books also have a very odd scene about desperately having to go to the bathroom and also desperately needing to talk about it, as at one point, Dain tells Jess that sex will have to wait because he needs to drain the main vein: "I can't wait around to pick you up. I'm so glad that this wicked hero was able to be redeemed, and I enjoyed reading about his stubborn journey towards love.
